To all with 2K2 Maxima's

What is your biggest complaint about the car?

I should be getting my car by the end of March & I am concerned about the tranny issues.

I am not sure whether to take a chance with the six speed or just pick up an auto. I think it is f***ed you have to take a brand new car in for tranny problems.

Has this been an issue in the past with other manual trannies.

Any thoughts would be appriciated

Thanks.

I love the car, but the following are the issues I have:

- Paint chip easily
- Steering wheel controls should be 'lighted', although I know
where all the buttons are at night
- couple more inches of head room
- underhood lighting
- BOSE not great
- mpg/fuel computer should measure instant gas mileage instead of
average
- Stock tires are not good in ice/snow, and some say rain
- brighter fog lights
- Tilt would be nice
- I like the dark tail lights better
- 2001 AE skirt, front lip etc would look awesome on the 2002

The car is great. Nice looking, aggressive, fast, makes a nice noise under hard acceleration. Fun for 4, may be 5.

When you say tilt, do you mean tilt steering wheel?

I meant telescopic steering. My 87 Supra has it, as well as one touch lumbar control, lateral support, etc.

Besides the paint and the tires, do you have any complaints about problems with the car. Most of the items you list are features you'd like to have or have improved.

Some problems noted by some other 2k2 owners:

-Right/left pull (mostly fixed after fixing tire pressure and/or alignment)
-Rattles (me personally, panels)
-Slow 1-2 shift on the tranny (slippage? auto..)
-Paint chips (definitely a problem)

I haven't had any problem with mine other than paint chip issues, and that was after driving to Michigan and back during snowy weather with salt and sand on the road, so I guess I had it coming to me.

I thought the tranny problems were on the 2K-2K1 models. The 2K2 has new auto and manual trannies.

The 2k2 auto is the same as the pre-2k2's except for the gated shifter and it's "beefed up", which is yet to be determined just to what extent.

What i have may not be a slip but i definitely feel a sluggish shift. In my old car (Honda) the 1-2 shift is sluggish but it doesn't feel like it's slipping.

The tranny in my 2k2 shifts way more crisp than the one in my old 2k1.I still hate the paint, and the rear beam but I deal with them becasue i love Maxima's. My 97 still looks new except for the paint nicks on the front bumper 4 1/2 years later.

paint, and it is harder (compared to others) switching from park to reverse. But otherwise, it's sweet
