That's what I understand too - the only engine actually. 125-130 HP or so?

Stanzas have the sohc ka24e, 138hp, 148 lbs/ft of torque.

This is same engine in the 1989-1990 240sx's. Then in 1991 the 240 was fitted with the dohc ka24e (10HP increase). The stanza was made until 1992, in 1993 it became the Altima which carries on with the ka24e, but the dohc version, same as the 1991 and upwards 240's. the stanza is no joke..that engine is capable of power, but has even less aftermarket than maximas. Stanzas can smoke most hondas. they're much lighter than maximas.

class dismissed.

your friend doesn't have a maxima motor in his stanza, it would be nearly impossible to fit it into there.

ok, see what he says is that they only put them in for the very last stanzas. his is probably a late 92. he swears its true (this guy is 40 and has always had a car related career)

so next time he drives it to work I'm going to pop the hood and look. I'll post what I see.

bit of information for you.
the stanza is set on the SAME frame as a maxima from 86-89. everything that will fit a maxima will bolt onto a stanza as well

this body style had 116 hp to start with
then it got bigger due to the ka motor being put in after 89

I had a 91 Stanza for a while when I blew up my engine. It was basically a smaller 3rd gen. maxima. The dash, interior and exterior were remarkably similar, and I was very impressed by the torquey 4 banger. I think they were great cars, my best friend bought my Stanza a year ago and recently he bought my Maxima as well. I have nothing but good things to say about Stanzas.

I had a '91 Stanza. The '90-'92 Stanzas are very similar to the 3rd gen Maximas under the skin (They also handle better, because they're less nose heavy). The earlier Stanzas were identical to the 2nd gen Maximas, but with 4 cyl engines. No Stanza ever came from the factory with a V6.

ok, I didnt see the car today but i did discuss it with him

he says he bought it in december of 91 and the last ones were made in january 92. he also said that only 100 of them came with the VG.

sounds like some of you nissan experts (matt93gxe) may be proved wrong with pictures.

I believe the guy, but still he could be mistaken

It sounds like this guy is full of it. My Mom had an '87 Stanza GXE and it had the rip snorting SR20E. It was weak as hell. The next and last body style was 89-92 it had the KA24E which was a 12V SOHC 2.4L L-4. Nissan never put a V6 in the Stanza because they were afraid it would steal sales from the Maxima! The only reason they did it now with the Altima is because of Renault!

Follow up on this and take some pictures. This is getting interesting. I know for a fact that a Stanza doesn't have a VG. Do a search in any search engine (like i did)to see if you can find any vg stanzas and you won't.

When this guy needs an auto part and he goes to any auto store, the computer will pull up regular ka24e stanzas, because a vg stanza never existed. The engine bay of a stanza is cramped enough with a little 4banger in it, i doubt it could hold the vg, even though they share the same transmissions.

The stanza is pretty much a cheaper version of the Maxima. I'm not saying it's bad, because it does share the engine of the 240sx. So it does put out some bang.

Get this guy to pop his hood. Take pictures for us. Laugh at him if he's wrong.

ok you guys keep saying the stanza came with a 2.4 4cyl and i agree 100%. all I'm saying is a guy that I work with swears his dec/91 stanza and 99 other stanzas came with a vg motor for some odd reason at the end of stanzas production. his wife drives the car so he doesnt usually have it. I'll look as soon as i can.

OK, here's whats wrong with what you said (not your fault, it's his).

He has a 1991 stanza, which he said was made in december "and the end of the stanzas production".

Whats wrong with that?

The end of the stanzas production was in 1992.
