Alternators in different 4th gen years

Can I put a 95 alternator in my 98? I did a quick search and didn't find anything.

I found one for a 95, but when I search for 1998 alternators on car-parts.com, it only shows me 1998 and 1999 Maximas. When I search for 1995 alternators, it shows me 1995-1997 Maximas.

HELP!

Some SEs came with a cold weather package, beefier starter and alternator, plus heeated seats etc.

I posted about alternator amperage for a 97 in the FAQ thread up above. Its either 100 or 110 amp, depending on cold weather package. NOT trim level.

First off, the alternators ARE different for trim levels according to all the databases that the parts places use. The 4th gen SE comes standard with a 110 amp, and the GLEs and GXEs come with 100 amp. Nobody has mentioned a cold weather package, though I don't doubt that plays a role. I just have not encountered it.

What I'm talking about is not amperage, though. I needed to know if a 95's alternator will work in a 98.

THEY HAVE DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS, according to John Sisson Nissan in Washington, PA. Also, www.car-part.com asks you what year you have, then looks for cars with compatible parts. Only 1997s and 1998s show up for a search for my 1998. If I tell it I have a 1995, it brings up 1995s, 1996s and 1997s.

Anybody know for sure whether this really is the case, or are they just being cautious? Obviously, the parts are different. But can one replace the other?
