z31 300zx turbo manifold??
z31 300zx turbo manifold??
Hi,
Will an old model 300zx (z31) turbo manifold fit on a VE engine?? If not, is it relatively close in how it would bolt on that you could make it fit with some work...or is it just totally not a good idea?
thanks,
Joseph

Thanks. You get it now?

I totally understand why this site is always so bogged down...12 replies and the closest anybody came to even referring to the question was "do a search." You would think, with the bandwidth problems that this site has, that useless replies would be kept to an absolute minimum. Come on moderators, you're supposed to keep the content maxima related, not talk about your surround sound
he got an answer did he.......

Very mature way you have of looking at things you have - if somebody asks a question that you feel has already been answered, you just post a bunch of useless/senseless replies. If you bothered to read the search topic that you posted, you'll notice that it was hardly informative and unfinished. Flyry's question never got answered. If there was a definitive, or at least informative, former post, then I would have partially been able to understand your logic. I agree that many times a search is often the best answer, but open discussion and speculation should be a part of this forum - as enthusiasts we should encourage each other with tough projects and be as helpful as we can.
I know this forum gets flooded with a ton of turbo questions, but I disagree with the sarcasm that most requests are met with. Turbo'ing a maxima is indeed a difficult and expensive job, but it's not entirely impossible. With a domain like maxima.org, this is often the first place where people will begin their research. We need to keep that in mind when posting replies, especially to users regarded as "lurkers" or "newbies." It's impossible/stupid to judge a person's engineering/mechancial skills because they haven't spent the past few years using this site as a chat server to rack up posts and happen to ask a question about compatible turbo manifolds. Even the most skilled mechanic will have to have some information to start on, and this should be the place to find it.

Flyry asks:
"will Z manifolds fit on my VE?"
Matt answers:
"No. Z31 manifolds have a round bore. VE heads have an oval port."
are you illiterate or what....the answer is NO!
my problem is people jump on here and ask all types of questions WITHOUT DOING A SEARCH first...yeah the veterans are hear to help out, but in order to get help at least show some effort and do a search first.....is that so hard?? is it that hard to try a search first or do you have to be fed evey single answer?? can you do somehting on your onw first, or do we have to take you by the hand?? so far my turbo project has cost me under $700......now do a search and see how many questions I've asked....but then ask me how many hours I've spent on Z31.com, zcar.com searching the archives, how long I've searched Altavista off typing in the simple keyword "turbo"....than take a look at the 200+ pages of info I have and the z31 FSM and Haynes manual in my room.....when I see some actual effort put into these questions, yeah than I won't say "do a search" but until then I couldn't give two "you know whats" about what you consider "mature".....and you claim we shouldn't judge someones mechanical skills over the net, well than thats all the more reason for them to either polish up by doing a search! you want info do what I did go out to the junkyard in 50 degree weather get on your back and pull the z31 manifolds and turbo...people holler about how they know this is such a custom/difficult job, but yet they are so scared to get "down and dirty" and find out **** for themselves....not everything is and will be handed to you!

OKay.. here's your answer in the same words I said last time and more..
NO, THE VG MANIFOLDS WILL NOT FIT ON A VE. THE VG MANIFOLDS HAVE A ROUND BORE AND THE VE ARE OVAL.
ALSO, THE BOLT SPACING IS DIFFERENT AND REQUIRE DIFFERENT STUDS. THEN THERE'S THE ISSUE OF WHETHER IT WILL EVEN FIT ON THE ENGINE IF YOU DID GET IT BOLTED UP. THERE'S A STARTER IN THE WAY.
Happy now? I already said "no it won't fit" once and explained one of the reasons why. there's two more. The first reason was enough that any intelligent person would say "oh, okay. they won't fit. I'll go a different route."
But some of you guys are like the same people that see a sign that says "Wet paint" so you have to go touch it just to see if they're lying to you!
sheesh! Listen to people every now and then. You'll learn a lot more. Show the other members here some respect too. we'll be a lot more willing to spend OUR time GIVING you the answers to your questions.
