Maxima vs. Police Interceptor
Maxima vs. Police Interceptor
Okay...this is funny. A cop friend of mine drives a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and thinks he can take me in a straight line race against my Max. Now I remember reading about a year ago when Popular Mechanics did a test of the regular Crown Vics (one that anyone can go into a Ford dealership and buy) vs. the Police Interceptor packages. PM said that the Interceptor was actually slower in acceleration AND handling times. I know, weird, but check it out if you don't believe me.
Anyway, I bet him that he is wrong and he still thinks he is right. Any input from all of you would be much appreciated. And I'll be showing him all of your answers so be respectable!!!

those Interceptors are monsters....they come with a lot more HP and a lot more tq then the regular cars. They probably weigh more because all the **** they have on but think about it this way....if there was a pursuit those Interceptors need to get to speeds of most cars so they muse be fast
I don't think the Clown Vics have all that HP but I'll take you in my '94 Caprice 9C1. I did hear that the next Clown Vic PI will have a V-10 in it. More weight but the added torque will sure shread some rubber.

The popular mechanics article was last year some time. The testors thought the same thing you did but found out how wrong they were. They couldn't belive they really got an "Interceptor" package and had to call Ford to confirm they sent the right car!!!

It probably won't hang with this 2k2 Maxima but it's my car and the wife drives the Maxima.
Bringing back memories...
I used to drive a '81 Caprice Coupe with the 5.0 and it could haul-a$$ on the highway...it was pre-fuel injection and the four-barrel was nice. The Caprice came with the 5.0 or 5.7 (LT1) engine. Despite its torque, the real power of the Caprice is in highway acceleration and not off-the-line. I say the Maxima has it in a quarter-mile.
"t?s known as Engine Code 99W: Police Interceptor 4.6-liter V8. Our paperwork says it generates 235 hp and 275 ft.-lb. of torque. "
Probably close. Police cars usually have a tranny cooler, larger sway bars, larger 4 core radiator and tons of radio equipment. The car is heavy heavy heavy.
