Maxima vs Turbo Civic

Dont know if you guys care about street racing stories anymore but here goes anyway. After meeting up with some friends at our usual hang out, we hit the interstate and move on a to a fast food restaurant for more BS. On the way there I pull up beside a semi-acquaintance guy in a 6th gen civic turbo. I figured he wanted to race from the way he was cruising right beside me,just waiting for me to gun it, so I did. Unfortunately I had to get behind him b/c I was behind my friend in a civic and he couldnt get out of the way fast enough. So I am about 2 car lengths behind him and we both hit it hard all the way up to 120. I was on his tail the whole time half expecting him to pull off, or me to start catching up, but we were exactly the same throughout the entire powerband. We started to race again after that but we came up on traffic real fast and I forgot where the my exit was so we both just called it quits.

Ok the info on his car is(best i know):97-8 civic coupe ex 5speed (1.6 sohc), greddy turbo kit not at full boost prob 4 or 5 psi, stock head, not sure about the exaust probably a cat back.Maybe he had more dont know. Not that it helped his speed much but he had a cf hood and 15 or 16" spoon style rims. I have a 95 se manual with a y pipe, muffler, a ghetto intake, and over 130,000 miles. It was a fun race though.

We parked and talked for a minute, I think he thought was gonna hand me my a** at first since my car is super stock looking. Then he said "does it have a v6?" I was stunned, do people know that little about Maxima's? I am going to find some more unknowing rice boys and whoop up.
Sorry for the long post but figured it might make a decent story and comparison.

Re: Maxima vs Turbo Civic

My friend has a civic turbo that has 350+ fwhp...

The one you race liked you said was not fully boosted, because it would have killed you.

Oh I dont doubt, most of the guys I hang out with have civics and I am afraid to jump at them because I have seem at the track walking on v8s. Even the all motor ones...

Thats why I like the max, only 2 people in 2 cities even mess with the max where I live. And I am one of them They have no idea of the potential

Let me clue you in on turbo civics.

They can run 14s or they can run 9s.

I just happened to witness a 6th gen EX with Greddy kit dyno 2 weeks ago, all said and done, once tuned, he made 166 whp and 128 tq on 6 psi. Other than that he had the basics, intake, exhaust, V-AFC. Any civic that puts 350 to the wheels is a FAAAAAAAARRRR cry from a normal civic. The open deck design of B, D, H, and F series engines WILL NOT hold that amount of power without being opened up to put in a blockguard of some sort. That said, its very possible for a B or H series engine to pound out 350hp to the wheels, but it is NOT a simple bolt on kit that does that. The engine has to be, to one degree or another, built.

I have friends with turbo hondas, one has a Drag Gen 3 turbo 99 SI, he runs low 13s on 9lbs of boost. Well he used to, until he blew his head gasket. Another friend has a GReddy SOHC 5th gen SI hatch running a type 24 intercooler (waaayyy too big for his application), he runs mid 14s. There is a wide range of kits available for various engines that fit in civics. So yeah, he could put down 350hp, or he could put down 150 hp. It all depends on his setup.

Yeah, I knew he had the regular EX engine in it, thats why I raced him.I figured he might pull on me since his car should be very comparable to what I had and I know he spent alot more money than me. Its just the guys with the primer colored, dented, gutted beaters that I actually worry about these days. Those are the ones who care little about rice and more about race. It seems like the flashier it gets, the slower the car goes.

Who cares about speed alone...if you want speed, go get a turbo camaro. The only way civic's are fast is with engine swapping....and then they're not civic's anymore.

Civics with mods are quick. Not a mugen emblem mod or a 3000 paint job mod, but im talking engine swaps and superchargers. My cousin owns a supercharged 95 SI hatchback running higher than stock boost. That $hit is fast because its light. My cousin's friend has a civic ex with a JDM civic type r engine, which pushes out 185 hp. That $hit is fast too, especially with the JDM tranny with the LSD. I live in frisco, yeah, rice capital of the world, and i see so many people giving civics bad reps. I don't see enough maximas here. When you are in frisco, dun mess with a red si hatchback with spoon rims or a stock looking white civic ex

Yes i agree, it fedinetly wasn't tuned correctly. I've seen turbocharged Civics and Integras in NYC that are running on 8 pounds of boost. That isnt much, but for an engine that is running stock compresion it's alot, anyways he should have pulled on you bad, so beware don't pick a fight with the wrong turboed hoDUH.......

Well his car is running good, and tuned ok. But he had his boost turned down on purpose since thats the only car hes got and doesnt plan on overworking it.At least thats what one of my other friends said. I am just happy that he spent at least 2+ grand on his stuff just to be as fast as a grocery getter.
