Speed Limiter.....i read about it in FAQ

this is what i read

How do I get rid of my top speed limiter?
Only some 4th gen GXEs are limited. If you have an SE or GLE, you have no limiter. The only way to tell if you have one is to hit the road and see how fast you can go. If you have a limiter, your fuel will be cut off and the engine will drop to idle speed at about 115mph.

i have a 95 gxe and i have taken it over 115 i am positive about that...does this mean i have one of the 4th gen gxe maximas w/o a speed limiter in it????

the reason i ask this is because i have read other posts about speed limiters and i dont remember any of then saying that they couldnt accelerate over 115.....thanx guys, Tom

From my experience in hearing people talk about the limiters, you should be able to hit 118 when your limited. I was one of the lucky ones to get a GXE without the limiter and I've taken it up to 133 in the infamous Pike video.

You will know if you have a limiter.

It is a very violent experience to hit it...you dont just stop accelerating, your engine drops to idle all of a sudden.

I'm glad I didn't have a limiter.

You don't have to swap out the ECU.

Just do the ECU mod covered in the "4th gen FAQs" thread.

Contact a car yard and find out. Probably about $80-$90 or so, just make sure they have a warranty...

Remember, you need to get one from your model year, tranmission, and emmisions spec.

Really, when I hit 115 that was it, the car wanted to go, but it didn't go. The engine didn't die at all. ????
