AARRGH!! those stupid radio controls!!

I keep hitting the buttons on the steering wheel mounted controls! Is there a way to turn the controls off?
While I'm at it I would really love to change the auto headlights timer off switch from 5 minutes to 5 seconds!

just unplug the controls, that easy. as far as the headlight, it is probably a relay that you would have to change.

Hmmm...

Thank you. I suppose all I need now is the manual that'll help me locate said connections.

forgive the ignorance, but how does that happen? (e.g. hitting the audio controls). Anyway, there should be a relay in there somewhere to disconnect the thing.

as for the headlights, it's 45 seconds... what's wrong with that?

as for the headlights...they turn off after 45 seconds if you have them in the ON position (not on AUTO) or until you open a front door after the ignition is turned off. This might have changed on the 2K2.

Oh, sorry. I have a 2k2 and regardless of where it's at it shuts off in 45 seconds.

You mean it has a "delay" function now? The headlamps turn off after 45 seconds after you turn off the car..even if you open one of the front doors?

I'm not sure about opening the front doors but i know for a fact that 45 seconds after i take the key off the ignition the lights go off.

I think it has something to do with making sure the HID's don't prematurely burn out.

My 2K does the same thing in the ON position and turn off when you open one of the front doors. In AUTO they turn off as soon as you turn off the ignition.

I suggested a mod a while back to keep the lights from going off when you open one of the front doors when in the ON position. This would give you a true delay headlamp feature so you can see where you are walking after you get out of the car. I am sure that all it would take would be to cut a ground wire or something.

Kind of funny that my $25K car doesn't have delay lights when $15K Grand Am's (a.k.a. Grand it Aint) have them standard.

I hit the controls as I turn the wheel. Iknow..I know.. I shouldn't stick my hand into that particular area as turn the wheel but I still do occasionally

My manual says the healights will shut off 5 minutes after I shut the engine and the door. Did I read that wrong?

Re: Re: Re: AARRGH!! those stupid radio controls!!

nah, don't worry about it. we all have our ways of dealing with the wheel. i normally use the palm of my hand during regular turns, tips of my fingers (kinda ring the inside wheel on my finger when turning) or grasp it during defensive maneuvers.

Since you have a 2k2 i'm forced to say that you may have read your manual wrong. Unless they changed something just recently (improbable) that thing should shut off in 45 seconds.

My whining obscured the fact

I forgot to say how much I do enjoy this car. I picked it up on 2/24. It only had 3, count em, 3 miles on it. I have 1200+ miles on it now. I have only one argument to throw at my friends who are Acura/audi/benz/porsche/bmw buyers... 'Here, take the keys for a while, then we'll talk price-performance-grins ratios'

THAT'S FUNNY, I actually just started selling nissans and this would be a great "quote" to use... especially because it's true also, it's too bad people don't realize how nice nissan's have become

You have my permission to use it provided I get a cut of the royalties.

Sounds like an ugly color combo?

It does say that somewhere, but that's only under certain circumstances. In most cases, when you leave the switch in Auto, turn off, then exit the vehicle, the lights will go off after about 45 seconds... 1-2 mins max.

It might stay on longer in the ON position... And it does stay on longer if I exit the car without locking the doors. Maybe the 45 second timer starts when you lock the doors.

the manual is right... the 2k2 lights DO turn off after 5 +/- minutes, definitely not 45 seconds

Mine doesn't if you exit and arm the alarm... It's somewhere in the range of 45 to 60 seconds in the auto position.
