How long can I use stock shocks w/ H&R springs before I have to replace the stock shocks?

i dunno how long you have been waiting for a reply but im guessn ppl are helllllllla tired of answering this question....different ppl have had different results w/ stock shocks...sum ppl w/ eibachs had there shocks blow within 1000 miles, other took em to 10-15k w/ out problem...me, im running progress springs, and i need shocks pretty badly, ive had em on for like 10k miles, needed em since like 5k i would say.....most ppl w/ h&r dont have trouble w/ stock, but general concencious [sp?] is to change to aftermarket shocks...i would recommend that as well...and kyb-agx just came out w/ new shocks so if i had the money, i would go w/ those

I had my H&R with myy stock GLE struts/shocks for about 8K. They were running running nice at first but I notice the ride is starting to get a lil bouncy now.. I guess its time to go order the KYB's..

Is the AGX for the 2k+ out already?

Anyway, i have a question for you. I still have stock shocks/struts with roughly 6k miles on them. I did notice it's a bit bouncier than when i first got the car. Could my shocks be blown? Anyway to check for that visually?

Thanks.

Some people say that stock shocks are fine with H&Rs. I am planning to do that.
Maybe if you go with Eibachs, when the stock shocks are not good.

I used to have Tokicos on my 95 Maxima with H&Rs and they sucked so bad, so I don't think stock shocks can be any worse. I think they should be ok with H&R springs.

You may want to look at MaxSpeed too. They are suppose to be H&R like, at half the price. There is a group buy going on right now too.

How long to use stock shocks

I have a 2002 SE and recently installed Eibach springs. The amount of lowering was good for my tastes and driving, but need really new shocks. I had great success with Tokico HPs on my '91 240SX so I ordered the Tokico's for the SE. Not good. I decided not to install them because they are quite a bit softer than stock. I'm now trying to find something better, possibly KYB (I heard they may have someting this summer - I hope I can wait that long - too soft and bouncy with Eibachs alone). Thanks.

Well they(Tokicos) became too soft too fast. They just didn't perform well at all.

I am not getting them again. I think stock shocks with H&Rs would do just fine.

I just installed H&R's on my 2k2 SE and I kept the stock shocks. I don't find them to be too soft or bouncy, they're actually perfect for now. The ride is very close to stock, except with less pitch and yaw.

On my previous car I was running Eibachs on the stock shocks, and that combo was still good when I sold the car (Contour SVT, 18K miles). On my 91 Mustang, I had Eibachs with Koni adjustables, and I blew the rears out after 20K miles. Go figure.

How'd you know that your rears were blown? You start bottoming out on the rear a lot?

Yes, it started to bottom out quite a bit and make a really nasty WHUMP sound every time I hit a bump. But then the car got stolen right after it started happening so I didn't have time to replace them.

Damn I miss that car...talk about a modder's dream (big money pit, too!)

Yes, I just found out about Cattman and sent him a couple of questions 2 days ago but haven't heard back yet. I'm ready to order. I will probably try the rear KYB AGX from Tire Rack, as they are cheaper. According to the info on Cattman, it looks like the rears are the same for '02 as '99, only the fronts need to be modified. Thanks.

My Eibachs should be in this week. I have less than 3k miles on the car, so, I'll see how long the stockers last. I want to get the springs and a RSB installed first. If I have problems with the struts, I'll replace them accordingly and post the results.

Anyone know of a place that have the Addco RSB's in stock? I'm having a heck of a time finding one.

your better off getting them all from him cus i'm sure he won't sell just a set of modded fronts for too cheap. i'm in business too and we are aware of what goes on. just get them all from him, he's doing us all a service by modifying them, who cares if you can MAYBE save 10 bucks from tirerack. i'm sure he dumped lots of money into doing this.

Not to mention you also save on shipping costs from ordering from one place.

Cattman (www.cattman) apparantly has the Addco bars but it'll be impossible to get hold of him if you have any questions. I've tried 3 emails and a phone call to him regarding buying his $500+ strut sets. You have the exact car I do so I know you'll very much need better shocks, which won't be Tokico.
