My S-03 tires are almost dead...Need advice.

Well, I knew when I bought Protenza S-03 tires that they wouldn't last forever. My front tires are gone from a combination of driving hard with FWD and sh*ty tred life (the back ones are fine). When inspecting my car this morning, after a night of hard driving, I noticed a small (about 1 cm) rip in my front left tire. The tire is not flat or anything, but there is this dam rip in it. The tires are worn down to the point that they are starting to chunck.
Anyways... I have three questions:
1) Am I risking death every time I drive fast on these tires?
2) Will I have any complications when just replacing the front tires? (i.e. will the difference in tred effect anything?)
3) Any suggestions for tires that cost less and perform as good or better than protenza s-03 tires?

I have a rip/slit on my sidewall as well. The thread is long gone. Thats why I just ordered tires/rims from discounttiredirect.com . I've been through 2 blowouts in the past and it's not a pretty sight. Get your tires changed becuz you are putting you life in danger. Kuhmos seem to get good reviews as far as a affordable tire that performs well.

Yeah, no driving hard until I get new tires. The rip freaked me out this morning because last night at 2am, I was going 130 with some ferrari in the rain (stupid to go that fast in the rain, but hey it was a ferrari!). I surely would have wrecked if I had blown a tire.

Thanks for the advice
ps-I think I'm addicted to the S-03s (I hear kuhmos aren't close to as good.)
