Some Turbo Questions:

Ok, after this turbo hype, I am pretty interested in the whole thing, but I do have some questions.

1) In the following picture, where does that "outlet/inlet" on the turbo lead to that is right above that fuse box in the picture (its polished)?

2) Will an internal wastegate do fine if it came with the turbo?

3) Does it matter at which angle the downpipe is to that "other port described in question 1" is?

I am sorry that I am not accurate with the info, but that is all I know lolol, sorry guys. Thanks in advance.

i have never seen this setup before, but as far as i know, there should only be one inlet, and one outlet in that location: inlet (air filter) that sucks in the air, and outlet that blows the forced air into the intake. it might be a blow off valve, but i'm not certain. i have never seen one in that location. they are usually on the pipe leading to the intake.

but anyway, if i were to take a guess at it, i'd say it was a blow off valve of some sort.

if a waste gate came with the turbo, you should make sure it won't bleed off lower than the amount of boost you are trying to produce. the wastegate regulates the amount of boost you run by bleeding off the exhaust sent to the exhaust side of the turbo. if you wanna run 6 psi, make sure the wastegate can do that. (i don't think ANY wastegate will have a problem running only 6 psi, though.)

and for question #3, if that is a blow off valve, it won't make any difference which direction it's turned. all it does is release the intake pressure when you let off the gas or depress the clutch. i guess if you wanted a really loud blow off effect, you could try to aim it to an area that is open so that it will sound off from under the hood.

Notice there is nothing attached to the TB there guys. That's not an install its just a turbo sitting there for show.

The polished port on the bottom is the intake port. The aluminum looking round thing on the top left is the BOV. The angle of the intake port makes no difference operationally, but you might wanna have it pointed *toward* your intake manifold for convenience and smoother airflow.

top left?? if you mean the round aluminum thing on the bottom left, that's a wastegate.

But as far as using this turbo, I think I figured it out.

Where the downfolds meet at the y-pipe, that piping is cut off and all exhaust is routed to the turbo on the opposite end of the filter. The exhaust winds up to turbo and then exits down through the downpipe and then to the existing cat. When the turbo is wound up, the air is pulled in through the filter and then wound up and thrown out that port I was talking about. I just couldn't figure it out, but now I got it.

But I do have a question, what does the wastegate do? Thanks guys.

Can the turbine by rotated on the compressor, meaning, can the outlet of the air be turned 90 degrees to make it compatible with the setup? I know this depends on the wastegate, but can this be done if I used an internal wastegate? Thanks all.

the wastegate bleeds off the amount of exhaust gas that is used to spool the turbo, thus reducing/increasing the amount of rotation of the turbine. inversely, this regulates the amount of boost the turbo produces. see?? you bleed off all exhaust, no boost; bleed off no exhaust, whole lotta boost!!

as far as the other question about rotating the system to make the intake outlet aligned with the intake tube, if the wastegate isn't mounted directly to the turbo, you could do this. but, then again, it won't make very much difference since it will be forced air flowing into the intake. just make sure you have appropriately sized piping with minimal bends.
