I'm using a Clifford Bullitt IV. When I got it installed, the guy set it up so that the oem alarm serves as a backup alarm for the new alarm. So far it's been serving it's purpose. I hear lojack is good as well, it's some sort of vehicle tracking system and that sells for like $700 I think...

Same thing with mine, except i have the clifford concept 200, and have the stock as backup, but stock is pretty much just a noise maker, and these days that doesn't help. except the clifford is very confusing to use, i have an option with the code punching, and i locked myself in the car once. but its fine now. i would definitely go with clifford.

Roger that, mattattax. The stock alarm is definitely NOT industrial strength. If you live or park your car in a high-risk area, you are well-advised to get an aftermarket alarm.

After realizing that the stock alarm was just a series of pin switches on the access points.. and that someone could break all the windows, take everything..etc.. as long as they didn't open a door..

I had a friend add a glass break and shock sensor to the factory alarm. The two sensors are slaved onto the hood pin switch as the wiring enters the stock alarm CPU. I've tested it quite a bit and the setup works very nicely. There is a little falloff in shock sensing capability towards the very rear of the car, but I could wire in another sensor in the trunk if I wanted to.

The only complaint I have is that the glass break sensor kept going off as acorns fell on the window during high winds.

I thought about installing Lojack.. but after finding out that the lojack is pretty much installed in a select few places on a car (ie very easy to find if you know where to look) .. I decided against the added cost.

How exactly did you go about adding a shock sensor to the Hood Pin switch. Most cars do not even have hood pin switches. Do you know what wires you used?
