Any cures for a notchy shifter?.....

When the car is still cold, sometimes I have dificulty putting it into second gear and it can sometimes be pretty notchy overall. Any solutions?

Most will recommend Redline to help that out since it's Synthetic. I've used Redline MT-90 for a quite and while and love it. If you think the stock shifter gets notchy don't even consider a STS

Yeah I was definantly glad that I did the Redline treatment before my STS. Keeps everything nice and slick and tranny shifts are so much smoother.

Is it really that much better than Redline? Can you feel it?

Dave... my mind is going.... I can feel it.... I can feel it.

[sorry, just couldn't resist]

I bet it is something you can't really feel, if indeed someone has done the test. It may be that Amsoil will take longer to break down, if the specs are better than Redline. I wonder what the cost difference is?

I went from reline to nissan fluid back to redline (mt-90) when I did my quaife.

I definitely noticed a difference and I'm skeptical when it comes to stuff like that (like adding 2hp and saying the butt dyno feels it,muahhahahahahaha)

Even with redline, I still have trouble slipping it into first. I often have to double clutch... Sometimes I really have to leverage it in, unlike the other gears. Well... maybe Reverse is sometimes that notchy too.

With my STS it got a lot notchier and it's also harder to get first and reverse The easiest gears are the middle ones though 3-4.

I can attest to the 75w90 amsoil. Its great stuff. I had my tranny gears cryogenically treated which also might have smoothed out the shifter action.

When it feels like there is a "wall" blocking your shift, try double clutching (yes I'm talking about upshifting). Even though I have Redline MT90 in my gearbox, it happens to me slightly once in awhile when its very cold outside. A light blip on the throttle and the shifter slips right into 2nd. I never force it in.

Have you used Redline MT90? Is there a sizeable difference between the 2?

Yep, I agree Amsoil's great stuff, but do you guys know that the 75W-90 is a GL-5 lube. The 80W-90 is the only one that's available in GL-4.
