Question to those that have installed new taillamps

A friend of mine has a '95 GLE that he is adding the Altezza-style taillamps to. I added the '02 tails to my 2K Maxima and my new tails came with new sealer to put on the tails to keep water from getting into the trunk. His new taillamps didn't come with any sealer.
To those that have removed and reinstalled taillamps: Was the sealant that was left on the car (after removing the taillamps) enough to seal off the trunk after installing the new tails?

Thank you for any help!

They seemed to be water tight for me and I changed them twice, first chrome(kinda nasty looking) and now Black Chrome(DAMN!). I have a black max and when I got my Black Chrome Altezzas, I took black silicone and foam-rubber and made a seal around the lights. this wasn't so water wouldn't get into the trunk, it was to make them look like they came on the car. The foam-rubber made them fit nice and tight, rather than that sh!tty rubber thing they give you. Then I siliconed around them and wiped with my finger. Let it dry and use goo gone to remove any excess. They looked a hell of a lot better after that.

You should be fine with what is there but if not just get some of the weatherproofing strips they use around windows to prevent any air getting in etc. That is basicly the same stuff and works fine. When I did it it came on the same strip that came with my freinds aftermarket taillights. I think it is the same thing.
