Cigarette Lighter missing or never there?

Yesterday, a friend of mine tried to plug something into my 95MaxSE's cigarette lighter, but there seemed to be no power coming out of the source. I've only had the car a few weeks and had yet to see if the lighter worked. Anyway, I only have a plastic piece on mine, no actual lighter. Also, when I put plugs into the area, the area around the plug gets scratched, like the hole is too small for the plug. I did take the actually piece out and it seemed like there is nothing connected to it beyond that, so I doubt anything is looses...am I doomed to have no cigarette lighter/power source or is there a solution to the problem. PS - Before anyone flames me about searching, I tried but couldn't find any real solution to my problem

you said you look out the unit and there was nothing connected to it? there should be a plug going into the back of the unit. maybe it was disconnected during a stereo install/uninstall and never reconnected.

Yes, there should be a small connector connected to it. Maybe, check for blowned fuse?

Yeah, i figured there should be something connected behind it, so when the unit slid out, i was pretty surprised....naturally, i stuck my finger in the empty hole, but i couldnt feel a thing, so im gonna take it off and see if it was disconnected (BTW, about the stereo equipment, you may be right...the car, when i bought it, came with a Prestige 10-disc changer, so maybe it was disconnected during that installation...thanks for the info

Don't forget to turn the car on (don't have to start the engine) once you get the lighter hooked up (if that is the case). I though mine was broken when I first got it. I happened to have a pump plugged into it and i switched the car on to play with the windows and and pump magically started working
