i am going to buy a cai pretty soon for my 98 max, but i just remembered i have a drop-in sitting in the garage that was used briefly on my 93 gxe/gle (dont remember which i just know it wasnt the se); will this fit in my 98?

it sure will. nissan has used the same air filter in all vehicles since 82 or so. the only thing yours might not have is two rubber gaskets that were included in later filters to create a better seal.
