clear coat fading away

i washed my car over the weekend and noticed that there's a spot
on my driver door that felt rough and looked like the paint faded
it doesn't feel smooth like the rest of the car...feels like
i'm rubbing on the paint itself, no clear coat there
anyone else have this? i hope the paint doesn't fade away

Yup, my car is almost celebrating it's 8th birthday. The clear coat is starting to flake off near the back window and rear bumper.

Anyone know of a way to replenish the clear coat or does it have to be professionally done. BTW, is the clear coat coming off because you neglected to wax or because just because of time.

the wax helps protect the clearcoat, if you regularly wash your car and dont wax, the paint(clearcoat) should still be fine( my car is 7 years old and it was waxxed once in its lifetime about 3 weeks ago). There was nothing wrong with the paint at all, even though it was never waxxed
