Judging Clutch Wear / Engagement? '97 SE

My SE has 93,000 miles on original Clutch, I recently purchased it and the guy babied the car.The Clutch isn't grabbing until the Pedal is almost all of the way out, is it about trashed or is that how it is supposed to be? Thanks in advance

Mine catches kind of high too... always has.

As long as the takeup is smooth and there isn't any slipping you don't have anything to worry about.

My engagement point is like that too and I have about 33,000 miles on it so I pretty sure that it is normal.

yes Maxima clutches are all odd and different...

mine engages pretty high and has alot of freeplay and travel... 57k babied original clutch

I've driven other Maxima 5spds and one or two has a totally different feel and pedal travel than mine does... and they were stock clutches too!

You can adjust it if you feel its too high. Read the FAQ above and I describe how to do it.

If you can still chirp 2nd pretty good, does that indicate that your clutch is in pretty good shape? I've got 100,000 miles on my original clutch and it's taken a lot of abuse so far...

In my Maxima I can't chirp in second gear, deos it mean I have a worn out clutch? My friend has a 97 GXE, and his clutch is way softer than mine, and clutch is never abused.

My car has 63,000 miles, should my clutch be worn out already?

Being able to chirp the tires into a given gear isn't really a good indication of how well your clutch is working. The ability to do so depends on a lot of different thigns...weather, tires, weight, mods & power, suspension, etc.

If your clutch isn't slipping than it is most likely in good shape. Until it starts slipping, I don't think you have to worry about it.
