VQ30DE with funny gas

Hi everyone,

Just had my NOS kit installed today, and that thing feels awesome, I almost finished the whole bottle the first day, it's kinda addictive Hopefully next week, i'll upgrade my fuel pump.

Why would he?

The VQ can handle more than a 100shot of nitrous oxide on totaly stock internals.

NOS 5124?
What shot are you running, 50?
Did you get any gauges?

Do the homework before you go too crazy. It is very addictive, but you have to do it in moderation until you have all the bugs worked out. N2O is great as long as you tweek it right. Get ready to have a lot of people tell you that it's the devil incarnate (people who are obviously misinformed), but I guess that's part of the fun of it. Good luck.

Hey 97Maxima, I looked at your profile, and

I see that you're in Philly. Did you get your nitrous installed at a shop? If so, how much did you have to spend for the install? or if you bought the parts and got'em installed at same place, how much was it? I"m only looking for a 45 - 50 shot because I dont wanna have to buy gauges or stronger fuel pumps.

please reply back!! thanks.

Hehe, I remember the first day. Went through one bottle, got it refilled and almost finished that one...almost got killed...sprayed in Neutral...good times!

Usually $3/lb. If you go to Holley website there is a link in the NOS section that gives all the authorized refill stations by the state.

Hey Guys,

The NOS kit is 5124, and I started with a 50 shot, just to test it out before I change to a bigger jet, and upgrade my fuel pump. I got a bottle pressure gauge.

I live in Philly, but I got my kit installed by a friend of mine in NY. It costs about $40 to refill the bottle (but it's worth it )

From there if you go up to the next level, 60 all the way up to 100, you will need gauges and a fuel pump. Make sure you do the research. There are several people on the org that are running N2O and can offer advice. I did my homework before getting mine and I was still off and close to danger. I'm still tweaking to this day. N2O is very good but can be very bad if you are careless. There are a lot of tricks to it and most can be found right here on the org if you look thru the search function. I found the info here very reliable and best of all it was ALL based on experience and directly about OUR cars.

No2 suggestions

We drag race with NOS kits on 4 cyl dragbikes all the time with 50-
200 hp shots.

Looking at the catalog it looks like you use the fuel injection as the gas enrichener to compensate for the increase in oxygen.

Bottle pressure is important for consistency. We like to see 900 psi
less pressure, less No2, less power. Don't over pressurize.

Preignition is the enemy. Check a spark plug after a hard run and see if it has any small bits of aluminum. Use a magnifying light.
No alum. no problems.

We have used nitrous controllers which retard the ignition when No2 is activated. 4 deg per 50 hp. Your knock sensor will probably retard the ignition. More experienced guys out here can clue you in.

On max's you cannot retard the ignition w/o reprogramming the ECU specifically for the N2O setup. Ignition does not seem to be the problem that most of us are running into, leanness is. That's the reason to upgrade to a high volume fuel pump and two step colder plugs when going over 60 shot of N2O. Detonation is definetly the enemy that is the reason for all the gauges and precautions so that the engine does not blow up. Probably more than anything though not enough fuel/fuel pressure is going to cause most of the problems.

I can see when you get into the over 50 hp shot (bigger No2 jet) you get to a point of overwhelming the stock fuel pump. Make sense to me.

How is the NOS injection hooked in on a maxima? Anybody have pictures? I'm really only familiar with the Fogger Nozzle style of NOS.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm new to nitrous oxide so I will def. do more research about it. I heard that we can use the 300ZX spark plugs because they are like 1 range colder, is that true? are they the same plugs between the N/A and TT?
