recalibrating needles??

ive seen this "recalibrating of the needles" being mentioned in many posts before, especially ones dealing with those indiglo needles...my needles mightve gotten a lil messed up after installing my reverse indiglo guages, so i was jus curious, how exactly does one calibrate the needles? can it be a DIY? or do u gotta get it done professionally? does someone have a write up on how its done?

This is what I did

I did not put indiglo needles on my car. I did put in white face guage overlays which did require me taking the needles off.

The instructions I got stated to gently place the needle back into its housing and turn it counter clockwise to the mark I made prior to removal.

The instructions stated to mark the resting position of the needles prior to removal.

What I found was that these instructions were not the most effective. They only worked for my speedometer.

So, I opened up the dash ,lowered the steering wheel by removing the two bolts below the column, removed plastic housing surrounding the steering wheel etc.

I then removed the screws holding in the gauge housing. I then pulled the cluster forward. At this point, I then had to gently remove the plastic cover so I had acccess to the needles.

I then manually adjusted fual and temp as speedo was accurate and the tach was about 750 rpm's off.

After adjustment, i started the car to see if they went to the proper position.

they did.

I then reassembled the dash and patted myself on the back.

Good luck!

Hmm...my temp sits on C all of the time. Sometimes it moves up off the rest stop a little. All the other gauges work properly and Im afraid to mess with the gauge cluster again due to all the wires I have back there. Oh well...I guess if I had to pick a gauge that stopped working it would be the temp gauge.

I did the white face kit and my speedo is about 5mph off. The others seem to be fine. Ive learned to figure in the difference when Im driving. Some places offer professional calibration by a machine but they are about 60-75 bucks!
