No pressure release from gas tank. . . .

I was just curious, but when I remove my gas cap, I do not get a pressure release. Is this normal? Every other car that I have had has always given that sound of escaping air when you remove the cap.

That is strange, also if your not holding pressure, usually the CEL light gets tripped. Or was that only 5th gens??

I actually have a '96 I30t, so I don't know if the CEL will turn on or not. The CEL has never been on, but just thought that it was strange??

Re: No pressure release from gas tank. . . .

I developed that problem after i installed my fuel filter incorrectly. The clamps that i used on the fuel hoses were slightly too big and were not properly squeezing the hose down. I was losing pressure around my fuel filter. You might be losing pressure through your injectors or from the rubber lines coming from the gas tank. Run your engine for awhile and try to sniff around for raw gas. If it is around the engine, check the injectors. If it is between the air filter/intake and the driver side fire wall, check the filter.

Another thing you can do is hook up a fuel pressure gauge and isolate these areas with clamps to see where you might be losing pressure. If you want to go that route, you can do a search or just let me know and I'll try and explain it. It's a bit long to explain.

Good luck!! Ok - time to quit procrastinating and start working.

It varies on my car. sometimes I hear it, sometimes I don't. I hear it especially after a long drive using up most of the tank in that one drive. Huge swooshing sound. Almost wants to suck me into the tank!
