Fram Air Filter - Are they any good
Re: Fram Air Filter - Are they any good
If your not intererested in performance then go for it... i use one cause im a poor college student... besides when i replaced mine my average mileage went from 320 to 360 a tank... cant beat that.
But, if your really worried go buy a Nissan one... they're not that expensive.

From what I've seen, the Fram's actually flow pretty well. But as for filtering, OUCH! It's that bad. What really makes me laugh is there logic of bigger filter element fibres being better (typical American mentality). Larger filter element fibres within a given thickness will filter less than thinner fibres. Yet, people buy into it. As for longevity, I haven't read any long term reports yet, I don't have any knowledge of Fram's longevity.
This is just my opinion, but unless you want to increase performance from your filter, I would stick with OE, or AMSOIL's oiled foam. No other filter has been shown to filter as well as AMSOIL's oiled foam, even those that flow less. There are filters out there that will flow more then the AMSOIL foam, such as those stainless steel mesh ones, but those are ridiculously horrible for filtration. I wouldn't use them on a street car myself. A race track car, sure, but I would change the engine oil on one of those after every race, and rebuild the engine atleast once a year.
personally i've seen everyone say FRAM sucks big time... the filters don't even do their job of filtering the oil....
i cried when i bought my car and found one on it! I quickly changed the oil and bought a nissan filter.
