Old muffler is rusted need a new one >

Hi,

I am new to the forum. I need to get a new muffler, and was wondering if any of those afteramrket ones are worth the money in terms of giving me a few extra HP ....I already have a Cattman ypipe, stock cat, and a CAI .....

Is it worth it to get an aftermarket muffler for HP?

Also, I am not decided on this yet, but I might want one that is best described as annoying when I get on it while still giving me some extra HP (especially with my CAI )....

If I want one that is not annoying but yet still provides some HP, what would I go with?

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Dave

Depends on your priorities.

If you value quietness, then stick to stock 4th gen muffler. You could experiment with a 5th gen variable muffler for a little bit of gain, expecially since you've already replaced the most restrictive part of the exhaust: y-pipe.

If you like the sound of the exhaust, get a catback. It'll give you some of the gain you desire.

I can sell you my stock muffler. Its from a 96 I30 and it had a rust spot, nothing big. 30,XXX miles on it.

Basically any aftermarket muffler will do. You just have to consider, like someone else said, what you want. You want noise: any aftermarket will make your exhaust louder than stock. You want quiet: stick with OEM. As for performance, you are likely to gain very minimal HP over OEM with just the muffler. You have a Y and CAI which is the best way to go for HP. If you want looks and sound; go aftermarket. If you want quiet; no other way but stock.

For a pic look at www.warpspeedperformance.com they have one on their installed on a 1996 Max (if I remember the year right) and as for gains minimal but it does control backpressure better by controlling when the two valves open and close.

When more BP is needed only one outlet is opened
When less BP is needed two are opened.

if you want a new muffler, get a remus - they pretty nice, but if you want to save some money, get an OBX.
