I'm putting H&R springs on my car soon. After reading posts, I have come to the conclusion that H&R will be the best mix of ride+performance. Right now I have stock shocks with 73,000 miles on them. Originally, I was going to put the springs on my stock shocks, but now I'm thinking they'll just blow soon with the lowering springs. What do you think?
Also, what kind of shocks should I get? I've read that Toxicos suck and that they blow out soon. However, most people here have Toxicos? I kinda want Toxicos, but not if they're gonna blow in a year. BTW, my driving in the suburbs and is fairly smooth driving. Thanks guys, I don't want to buy the wrong stuff and waste my money.

You might want to suck it up and get Koni, but it's $$$. Around $450. Tokico are inexpensive, but wear out faster. The other choice is KYB, but they are not performace oriented. Or wait 6 month for the KYB/AGX that suppose to come out. Great performace and may price lower than Koni.

I got it here.

http://www.shox.com/

The lowest price I could find. It was around $460 plus shipping. Kind of expensive, but it does have lifetime warranty.

You might want to get your H&R from them too. The claim to have the lowest prices guranteed!

Tokicos (note spelling) do not suck. I have them on both of my cars right now and like them very much. Mileage is a better measure of a shock's durability than time (you mention they blow out in a year...not!) and I've had mine on my '91 and '95 for approx. 40k and 20k miles respectively and they still perform well. However, the type of driving you do (road conditions) really determine how long the shock will last. Stock shocks on the cars died at about 80k and 60k miles...you are probably long overdue for replacement shocks. You'll be amazed at the difference new shocks makes in the cars ride. If you put the shocks on at the same time as the H&R's you will be amazed at how tight the handling gets.

Alright...I'll prob end up going for the Tokicos then, not the Toxicos...LOL. Ya, since I have 73,000 miles, I prob need new struts/shocks anyways. My driving is pretty suburban and "tame", so the Tokicos should be a good match for me. As for the "one year" thing, that's not my opinion, thats the opinion of some posts I read on the forum, but maybe they drive hard with them? Oh well, thanks for the help, oh and how much should I expect install to be on the springs and shocks? Thanks JJ.

Konis are better than Tokicos, but what the Koni people here failed to tell all the newbies who ask questions about shocks is that the front Konis require custom installation to fit on Maximas. Basically, you need to remove the original cartridge from your stock front struts and install the Koni ones. It's not an easy task, but any good shop should have no problem with it. The catch is that if they mess up, you have no spares to install back onto your car.

I have Tokicos on mine and they seem fine. I think the Koni's are better (for the front anyways) but for me, it's not worth the hassle and extra expense of buying new shocks and then paying to get them retrofitted onto a stock housing.
