I FINALY took my 2002 to the track tonight!

Don't get to exited becuase my times were not the good. I went to NE dragway in NH. I drove about 2.5 hours to get there and i got 4 runs in. My car has the mods listed in my sig, beyond that I had my spare tire and all in my car and a 1/2 a tank of gas. The temp was in the 40's all night(to cold for Kumho's!). Also this was the first time I have ever been to a drag strip let alone raced at one. My best time of the night occured on my 1st run after just comming off the highway.

R/T ... 1.141
60' ... 2.441
330 ... 6.339
1/8 ... 9.532
1000 .. 12.267
1/4 ... 14.582
MPH ... 98.02

As you can see my 60 ft sucked! I had no idea how well my car would stick to the track surface. I gave it a normal street launch and my car had a lot more to give before loosing traction.

After that I did my 2nd run thinking before hand that I would push my car a bit harder off the launch. Well little did I know a few minutes earlier a car droped it's freaken oil pan right at the start of the 1/4 mile. With that said I had no clue about this and ended up pealing out like no tomarrow plus I did some good old fasion wheel hopping! I got a 3.117 60' ft on that one and pulled a stunning 16.1 @ 96 MPH!

The next two runs on the cold oily surface were 14.8's, I could not get traction for the life of me! Take a look at the crappy 60 ft and slip on this run. (4th run)

R/T ... .897
60' ... 2.616
330 ... 6.619
1/8 ... 9.824
MPH ... 77.51
1000 ... 12.560
1/4 ... 14.873
MPH ... 97.88

I was pretty impressed that I pulled off a 14.8 with a 2.6 60' ft

Next time I go I am pretty sure i will be deep into the 14's, I learned a lot tonight about racing at the track, it was a lot of fun except for the fact I only got 4 runs in 4 hours and I had to drive a total of 5 hours

Now for the pro's, from looking at my times what do you think I could do if I had better circumstances and if I was a better driver, time wise?

Last thing, I was the only freaking NISSAN in the whole joint, everyone either had a mustang, WRX or a honda. Everyone there was shocked my family sedan pulled a 14.5 with my crappy 60 ft!

Come on Emax...You should know, being the east-coaster you are, like me ..those 40's nights is when your motor will perform like a bat out of he!! ..... Light those Kuhmos up, and the cold wont be a factor.....Why dont any of you guys with 6 speeds buy Drag Radials for the track. They arent slicks, but they hook up great !! ... I love that ET ..Emax, almost as much as I love your cabin, and that awesome Maxx !!!!

The one time I tried to light my tires up I got a 3.1 60' LOL! I just check that slip out and I red lighted(while reving I moved up a ft to far) and then waited a second and then went, other wise I probably would have had a 15.1 on that run.

When I read the title of the thread I was scared my stock record would be in danger......no worry now! I'm looking to dip into the 13s with my intake and wheels this Friday or Saturday.

Hey Ethan those are decent times considering they were ran at NED. That track never gets prepped besides big shows like Super Chevy. I bet with some practice and if you ran at Etown you'd definitely be running low 14's.
I was there last week and there was a 2K2 6sp running 14.4 with a Frankencar intake and UDP. I asked if he was on the Org but he said no.

that is impressive, especially considering I got a 15 with a 2.4 in my auto--your 60' was 2 tenths higher and your 1/4 was 2 tenths lower, craziness--I'm sure you'll be much further into the 14s if you can get some traction--your first time at the track sounds A LOT like my first time

Ethan

That's pretty good, especially with those 60 fts. Once you get your launch down, you should be close to 14 flat. I had similar 60 fts (maybe a bit higher) in my 14.7 runs.

trap speed...

I ran my 2K2 auto at the track several times, and was in the high 14's. These are with an intake and catback exhuast to stock muffler. My trap speeds however suck. I can't get better than 91. Any ideas?

Also "emax" you will definetly enjoy the UDP. I love mine, the rpms just climb when you get on the gas!

Try having your car dynoed and then you can see were your car should trap out around. My car is probably putting down about 20 more FWHP then your's and another 10-15 WTQ, that's probably why my trap's are higher plus the better gearing with the 6 spd help's too.

I'm just waiting to see GregP's UDP dyno, once that's in and the UDP is proven "worthy" I will get another one(I had one on my 95).

And i hope Greg gets an SAE corrected graph for his pre-UDP run and an SAE corrected graph as well for the post-UDP run otherwise the results are going to be too error-prone.

I'm the master of street launches so more mods will do me good there Launching at the track is so much different.

everytime someone posts about taking their 2k2 to the track it gets me thinking a lot....why were my times so bad? you ran a 14.8 with a 2.6 60' i ran a BEST OF 15.3 with a 2.5 60'. at first i thought it was just my lanch that needed work but now im thinking its my launch AND my shifting. i know ive said this before but i also wonder if there is something up with my car. im going to the track again in a week so hopefully i'll be happier when that night comes.

anyway, good job Ethan.

Get you car dynoed! If your car is messed up in some way it will show on the dyno. I was shifting super fast at 6700 RPM through all the gears. Occording to my dynoes thats what I should do.

Ewok,

Still respectable times, considering conditions.
I was very dissappointed on 4/14/02 when Smithtown Nissan brought down a stock 2K2 Auto Maxima and Altima. The Altima was a consistent winner against the Maxima, and it was a damm shame too.
I wonder how some of the guys on this forum get mid to low 14s when the best time the 2K2 Maxima A/T could muster was a 14.97~!
I didn't garner the ***** to ask if I could drive it, but if people on the .org can get 14.3s stock A/T, why can't Smithtown's 2K2 ?

Drag launches require a bit more effort, and are totally different from street conditions.

Keep up the good work man.

Very nice runs Ethan, but didn't you say you were gonna run low 14s/high 13s in you Max Just kidding!!! Racing at the track isn't near as easy as it looks, ehh? Your 60 foots are definately a problem, but that has more to do with the weather more than anything. Cold weather = bad traction on street tires, but awesome performance from the motor (ie good ets and trap speed even though the 60 foot is bad). I've run a couple high 14.8s with a 2.50 60 foots in 50 degree weather. If you can get your 60' into the low 2.20 range, you'll be looking at 14.2-14.3, weather depending. Your trap speeds are very impressive (you got me by a few tenths of a mph). Your best bet right now is to invest in some drag radials and head back out to the track while the weather is nice and cold. Once the temps get above 70 degrees and the humidity starts to go up, these VQs heatsoak bad, especially the 95-99 and 2k2s since they have alumninum intake manifolds. You can expect to gain ~.3 second in ET and drop 2mph from a 85 degree day vs a 55 degree day. I haven't run in weather any cooler than 55 degrees so I don't know what 40 degree weather would do for my car.

40 degree weather blows with Kumho's combined with a oil slicked track. Next time I go I will do 14.2 or better . The track is definatly different becuase the launching surface is much different then regular pavement, it will take some getting use too. I just wish the track was closer, the whole trip put 248.6 miles on the odometer

But anyways i'm just happy I beat your best time my first time out

Hehe, not for long I got some new tires last week and they are like glue. I tested them out one morning at one of my job sites. I wound up to 3000rpms and quickly slipped the clutch, got a little chirp from the tires, and my car took off harder than it ever has. The downside was that my car hooked up to hard that my coffee mug few out of the center console and into the back seat That was a little mess to say the least.

I'm very sad that you went to the track though, now I can't give you crap about G-tech racing. BTW, what was your best G-Tech 1/4 mile and trap speed? I'm curious to know if it's as off as the G-techs I've used on the track.

Haha that sucks What kind of tires did you get? I wish I never got kumho's. If you beat my time I will have to go back to he track again and beat your time

I got a set of Sumitomo HTR Z 225/50s. The section tread width is 8.5". I got the HTR Zs because of the rave reviews by numerous F-Body/Stang owners who've pulled 1.90 60 foots on these tires. I'm hoping for a 2.1X 60'. I had no idea my prior Yokohama Avid V4s 215/55 were so traction limited. I thought my traction problems was because of my 193fwtq. Guess not. Live and learn.

I'll beat your ET, then you'll beat mine, then I'll get the ME/VI manifold and you will be really far behind. Yeah huh. Take that
