ARRRGGGHHHH....Why is my two month old black paint covered with swirl marks????

Okay, I actually know the answer. The clearcoat is swirled and the darker the color, the worse it shows. I am so fed up with it. My Prelude is black and covered in swirls as well. Its not like I wash my cars with brillo pads, but this is ridiculous. I hand wash them and dry immediately, but to no avail. How many of you guys feel the same way I do?????

My car is over 4 now so it doesn't bother me anymore, but at first it did. The other thing that tee'd me off was seeing the car rust when it only had 300 miles or so. Of course the dealer had a look at it and told me it's normal. Just enjoy the ride, ignore stuff like that. It's a mental thing, if you want everything to be perfect Nissan will drive you absolutely bonkers. So just appreciate your car for what it's good for, not letting it bug you by its shortcomings.

When you wash your car:

Do you use a sponge or a fuzzy wash mitt? Do you put them in the washing machine after every use to make sure they are clean the next time you wash your car?

Do you use clean, soft terry cotton towels, or do you use some big, ratty, bathroom towel. Again, do you put them in the wash after every use?

When you wash the car, do you wash it in a circular motion, or do you go along the lines of the car? Same thing when you dry it. Keep in mind you don't have to scrub the car when you wash/dry it. Be gentle.

If you have been in the car wash even once, don't be surprised that you have swirls.

20 questions?

Are you putting these towels into your parents' washing mashine or a laundromat's? Even if it's not your own stuff that has been used to clean cars does not belong in a washing machine. What the heck is a ratty bathroom towel? You know the saying from the Sopranos, Tony said "I don't **** where I eat." Common sense.

I don't live at home anymore, but when I did, I use to put almost everything in the wash. I keep my car pretty clean at all times, so that it never really got that dirty. I don't see the problem with putting towels in the same wash that I wash clothes in. If everything is washed after every use, they stay pretty clean. I don't use the same mitt to wash my rims as the car, so there is only a small amount of dirt on the mitt.

I know that most people just have a bucket in their garage with all their car cleaning stuff. The same sponge/mitt sits there after every use, and people think that if they ring it out for 10 sec before they wash their car, that is considered a clean sponge/mitt. Same thing with towels.

I don't know about you, but I clean my car with sponges/mitts/towels that are as clean as the clothes on my back. But that's just me.

I think you can have the car buffed to get rid of the swirls. That was one of the main reasons I stayed away from purchasing a dark colored car again.

I had a black Tundra pick up and it came from the dealer with 2 nasty swirl marks on it. Tried the Zaino products and it took them out. Need the Z-2 as a finish product and Z-5 takes out the swirl marks. If you try those products follow their directions and it will turn out great. It needs a few coats but it will take care or it. Zaino products are first products that would not leave swirl marks when appling. And I tried them all, at least the major brands.

Take NickStam's advice on the clean sponges and towels. But as another pointer do NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT use a cotten polishing bonnet, those kinds you attach to a drill. I put on some liquid polish with that and result was pretty little swirls everywhere i went with the bonnet when i wiped off the polish. I did this back in october 01 and i can still see some swirls but its gotten a little better...Everytime i do a Meguiars 3 step cleaning (all by HAND) it looks brand new again

swirl remover and wax just fill up the swirl marks and disguise them temporarily. After some rain or a wash or two, they obviously come back. That's the downside to owning a dark-colored car. But they look the best when clean
