Hanging onto your 4th gen, vs. getting a 5th gen

So I decided to tempt myself and test drove a 2002 Maxima SE.

Nice car.

Definitely worth a second look.

But, when I got back into my 4th gen, the feeling wasn't like "oh man, back to the same old thing." It was more like "wow, y'know this car is STILL great. I can't see selling her just yet."

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I posted a similar poll on the 5th gen forum:

Of course, most of the people there are happy they've made the move.

The only reason I couldn't see myself in a 5th Gen >>

is due to the lack of a 5-speed automatic tranny and the fact that the 5th Gen is too large for me.

I"m hanging on to my 98.

I love my 98Se. I'm gonna ride her out, til she reaches 300k. And after that, if I can put in a new engine for a good price, i'm gonna do it and ride for another 300k.

Same w/ me, I'm just over 73K and she still runs like new, it would be a shame to see her leave so fast!

I guess the only thing I like about the 5th Gen. is the new 255hp 3.5L VQ, test drove a 2K2 GLE a while ago, man that sucker is fast!!

Wht98SE, I like your progression of Altimas to the Maxima. Definitely moving in the right direction!

As for keeping the car for 300k and beyond, that's a very sound idea. Because by the time that rolls around, gasoline powered cars will be on their way out... you'll see plenty of hybrids and alternative energy vehicles out there. Gas will be $3/gallon.
