what's the most powerful car you ever drove?

Isn't it crazy how much HP HP HP HP (and I don't mean the merger with Compaq) is at hand these days?

When I got my Max in '98, I thought 190 wasn't bad though I wished I could break the 200 hp barrier. The 205 ft-lbs was some sort of consolation.

I can't think of a car that I've driven that was 300 hp or more. The 96 M3 was 240 I think. The 540i was 282 I think. I did a T6 Volvo which I think is 265+. I was gonna drive my managers Jag which was 290 but I didn't.

Aren't we spoiled when Passats now have 270??? Excuse me but wasnt the 540 a rage a few years ago but now only has 12 more than that Passat?

As much as I am impartial to Nissan products, I sure wouldn't mind checking out the newer Q45. I've seen less of them than the LS430 and yep, SC430.

M1A2 Abrahms Tank. I only got to drive it for about 10 minutes but I believe the twin turbine turbo puts out about 1700hp and 2500ftlbs of tq. I don't recall exactly, but it went 0-60 in about 24 seconds from what I was told. I do know that I scaled up a 12 foot river wash out with out having to give it much gas... he he he

mine

A distant relative's of mine, he had gotten a new Z06 Vette. Asked me to come to the track with him and run it knowing I am really into cars...he actually let me run that beast! My best time was 14.023 out of 3. My first time driving such a high power beast and I think I did real good. My reactions were good, my 60's sucked(spun like a ****). I was able to chirp 3rd every time. On the way home we were doing 170!! I think those Z06's have 435HP. I want one bad.

Shadow's car w/ the 3.33 pulley which is somewhere in the 300hp range. Took me a while to realize it to. It doesn't seem that powerful until it starts smoking the tires at 30 miles an hour.

I think the fastest car I've ever driven was the Mercedes 500SL convertible. The V8 was "only" 302 horsepower, but it felt very fast, and the handling was very good.

The most powerful car I've driven, however, is the Cadillac Escalade with the 6.0L 345hp V8. Very very powerful, but the power was a little blunted by the mass of the vehicle. Still, 0-60 in 7.5s for an SUV is faster than a 4th/5th gen auto Maxima. Quick indeed!

The car I've had the most fun driving, among all the cars I've driven, is the Lexus IS300. It is more edgy than the BMW 3-series, and has a great exhaust note and a high tech looking interior. Handling is razor sharp and the car is super easy to control at the limit.

A guy that I used to race SOLO1 and SOLO2 with let me drive his Doug Rippie modified ZR-1. Full motor work and a Vortech. He claimed the car dynoed close to 800 hp. I never saw the dyno, but if that's what ~800 hp feels like to the wheels, me like!!!!

Another guy that came out quite often let me drive his Gardner Douglas Cobra replica with major hp. Unfortunately only drove it on a SOLO2 track. Easy car to get out of shape with all the hp and lack of traction.

As far as raw power.....my neighbors 96 (I think) Dodge Ram 4X4. That beast had ungodly torqe, especially since it was pulling a trailer full of horses!

Not the most power, but most power to weight ratio'd vehicle would be my Honda CBR600F4i motorcycle. With me on it it would weigh little over 500 pounds. This bike usually puts out 80-90 HP at the rear wheel. Its close to the tiniest CC of the sport bikes but it does its job nicely. Magazines have rated it at mid to high 10s in the 1/4, and I've seen one of mine doing flat 11's stock at the drags. Maybe some day I'll move to a 1000 cc or a 1300 cc.

For those of you who havent driven a 300HP+ RWD car (Be it supra, viper, corvette, camaro, porsche), do yourself a favor and test drive one. Its quite eye opening.

2000 BMW M5
2002 SMG BMW M3
12sec 2001 Trans AM WS6 with r/a
2002 Camaro SS 6spd with tons of bolt ons
1996 Acura NSX

These are friends' cars. I have driven them a lot. I actually get the M5 the best. The m3 is fun, but the powerband on the M5 feels better. It pulls smoother through the powerband than the M3.

1994 Buick Roadmaster Estate wagon!

260 HP de-tuned LT1 (iron heads) - strong pull and surprisingly throaty roar once you gun it! Only bummer is the speed limiter at 110 mph or so...

2001 Pontia Firebird w/ Ram air and 6spd. That car had neck breaking pull from all gears. It had 325hp. Most expensive was a 2001 Mercedes S430 which retails for about $70k

Hey I forgot to mention, that's AWESOME that you got to drive that!

I really REALLY wish I'd taped that TLC episode where they had all this great footage of the Abrams flying around the testtrack or proving grounds. It can do tons of things (like brake crazy fast, hold on a 60 degree slope) and that turbine engine sounds f-ing INCREDIBLE!

I'd love to hear one in real life, but all we have are Leopard 1A5's...

1972 plymouth duster 440ho supercharged 4-2bbl carbs, was my dads old drag car, ran low 10's on slicks, 13's on street tires (had some... traction issues) guessing 8-900 hp? car was lightened but would sit driver and passenger just fine. talk about a cool sounding car... 1967 vw beetle bracket racer that runs consistent 11.70 QM times,
slk500.. was pretty cool but i did not like the sound...

'70 Chevelle LS7 454 - maybe 600hp, who knows with the bottle - 800?
'00 Mallett Corvette 383 - around 435hp
'02 Z06 - 405hp I think, just yesterday... -- the Mallett was faster

Also, rode in friends ERA Cobra 427 race car several times, don't know the hp, but was the wildest ride of them all...

Ever drive a construction back hoe? Talk about torque. That thing could tow your house away.

Probably most powerful vehicle would be a Ford F450 dumptruck turbo diesel. Maybe only 150 HP, but 600+ ft lbs of torque!
