Uh no, to shave off about 2 to even 3 tenths of a second from your 1/4 mile, shift from 1-2 and then 2-D with OD on and make sure let the needle drop from 6600 rpms. Ask anyone from the DC Chapter that has an auto and they'll tell you the same thing. I don't recommend it for daily driving though, only at the track or else tranny problems will come sooner than expected.

Hm...I don't know, I tried both at the track and it didn't make any difference. I do have the VB upgrade though. I tried manually shifting, OD on/off, blah...blah...blah, no difference.

Well, I don't know. Seems like me, DCmax, Jay-Pee, Maximillion, and others here in the D.C. region tend to get better times doing the manual shifting. I didn't believe in it either at first until I went to the track and ran a best of 15.50 leaving it in D, and the next week, same setup, same weather and ran my best of 15.26 by moving the shifter. DCmax happened to get the same results after telling him to give it a try since he doubted the method as well. I don't know what to say on your part, but I do know that it happens to work for a few of us with some practice. Me, Jay-Pee and DCmax are now competing to get into the 14's with our autos since Jay-Pee and DCmax are running 15.1's and I'm in last with the 15.2. We are planning on going back to the track since we all got new speed mods for our cars, Jay-Pee now recently got a y-pipe, CAI, and a UDP, while DCmax is getting his VB put on soon, and I need to test out my Greddy SP and RT Cat. One of us is bound to break into the 14's by the end of this month.

None of you guys have the VB though right? You said DCmax will get his soon. So I'm thinking it could be the VB. I didn't improve my time. Funny thing is I got a better time before the VB upgrade. I ran a 15.4 with ypipe/cai/rt cat/apexi catback exhaust. I did manually shifted at that time though. Also I ran with stock rims with crappy stock tires and almost full tank of gas. I got better tires now and the VB upgrade, but did even worse than before.

Yea, that's strange. We don't have the VB yet, (I'm not sure if I'm gonna put down money for that anytime soon, maybe finish off the aero kit first) but we were all thinking that it would be even better having it and manually shifting. We'll see when DCmax tries his out. He videotaped his run of his 15.1 with a setup of pop-charger/y-pipe/rt cat/jwt ecu/stock wheels.

It's really hard to say what the effects of manually shifting are on 1/4 mile times. Ignoring top runs (15.40 the first time, 15.13 the second), with the Popcharger/JWT ECU/Cattman Y/RT Cat I was consistently at 15.4 on heavy rims and a half a tank of gas. A few weeks later I was consistently at about 15.3 on stock front tires and the same amount of gas, but I did have my best runs ever that night manually shifting however the improvements could be attributed to my stock front tires or just having more experience. Also, the second night the track was ripped to shreds which throws yet another variable into the fire. In fact, there are simply too many factors to consider and Im getting a headache.

VB hopefully will be in this week, then it's off to the track.

Economics major. Ive seen some of those rides around but next time I'll pay more attention to detail -- there are so many accords and preludes at this school.

Lots of accords and preludes at school now.. My brother the ArcticMax was an Econ major too. He's out of school now, but hasnt finished his degree yet. He got 6 more electives to go, and he's finishing them at NoVa.
