Noise coming from EGR area???
Noise coming from EGR area???
I have a 95 GLE with 112,000. About 2000 miles ago I noticed a noise coming from the area around the EGR. I have checked the tube connection and the mount to the manifold, but everyhting checks out. The noise sounds like an exhaust leak..sort of muffled. Does anyone have the same problem? Also, I don't think it has anything to do with mileage because I heard the same noise coming from a '95 with 76,??? miles.
I noticed this noise on my 97 I30t which has only 38K miles on it...when it was under warranty, i asked the dealer to check it out. they ended up replacing the BPT and EGR valve, and the noise was still there. They then listened to anoter I30 of the same year, and determined that the noise is normal. As far as I understand it, the noise is normal on most maximas/i30's up to '99's when the exhaust emissions standards had changed and therefore, ended up ridding the noise.
so, more or less the problem is hit or miss. I thought maybe it was the EGR valve itself because the noise changes when the valve opens and closes as one manually throttles the gas. But I am glad to here replacing the EGR did not solve the problem. Maybe the angle of the tube is too abrupt and creates turbulance as the gases enter the valve.
