Y do people hate altezzas so much????

I don't know why everyone is hating on altezzas so much? I happen to think they look good on certain cars.. Maybe it's because all the ricey honda boys think it gives them like 15 hp or some ish. I mean I have them on my car and I feel as if there are alot of people who like them but there are the few who always put them down. Everyone has their own taste and style. If everyone started to copy each other and like 90% of Max owners had them on thier cars, maybe I would agree with the 'haters' out there. To each his/her own. If you like them good, if you don't keep your mouth shut. We're all part of the same community and share a love for the same vehicle. Stop the hate. I am willing to take a stand for all altezza owners out there and say "I Like My Altezzas and I Wouldn't Have Them Any Other Way!!"

Ok sorry, I had to get that out there

Thats kinda half the point. IMHO on the Toyota I like them, on a Max (or anything else) I don't hate 'em but just think the style doesn't belong, same goes for the much used 'n abused GTR badge. But then again I've got S14 wheels on my car, which seems a little hypocritical.

I'll keep my mouth shut.

Cause they're fugly!!!!

but hey, that's just my opinion.

You have em, you like em, well then, enjoy em.

Me, I think they make too much of a thing about themselves.
Hey - look! Tail lights and a LOT of chrome!

I like the black chrome or carbon fiber look a little more, but still...

I hate Altezzas because they are ugly. I also hate them because they are expensive, but of very poor quality.

The newer Altezza lights for Hondas, etc. are looking much better and seem to fit style-wise. That being said, they simply don't look right on Maximas. On some vehicles here, you could make the case on how they complement the looks, but usually the same people who install them have a hideous looking Maxima (cut springs, bigass wing, delusional GT-R stickers, awful rims, etc.).

I prefer Maximas remain Altezza-free. If you want them, you should probably be in a Civic or Accord anyway.....

Everyone has their own taste and style.
Yes, but there is a general consensus on what looks good and what doesn't.

Analogy: 3-series BMW pretty much always was and is regarded as the ‘perfect’ design in its class, and everybody strived to follow. Now, if somebody thinks that body style is ‘ugly to them’ they don’t share the same taste as the vast majority does, thus the one will be labeled as having ‘gaudy’ or ‘no sense of taste’.

You can have your own taste, but it is not a good one if you are the only one who likes it

Maybe I shouldn't be posting in this thread. I wanted to get some, but I was questioning the quality. I hate cheap @ss products. If you guys can show me that they don't have a good fit, and that they're cheap, I'll go for the clear taillight mod. Thanks.

If done right... I think any mod could probably add to the lines and eye pleasing aspect of a nice automobile, but I honestly think that most of the people that use them, are only using them in a desperate attempt to be different... ironically, they are trying to be different, just like everyone else.

I have seen a couple cars on here that looked good with clears all the way around. There is a white one that someone has in their sig that I think looks very well thought out.

If I see a car and something jumps out at me, it would be the first thing I remove. Ask any woman how she "accessorizes" and it will be the same age old rule of thumb: Quickly turn to look at yourself in the mirror, and if there is anything that catches the eye and distracts... remove it. This is the same concept, I don't want people to say "Here comes Mike on his 'dubs (or whatever is the latest fad)" I want people to appreciate my car for the entire picture.

Just my thoughts...

Alteezas are expensive, cheap quality and ugly. While alteezas on an is300 look good, they just dont match a maxima very well.

I think they don't match up well on a car that doesn't have Altezza headlights.

I like the Skyline mod, looks good. I have a pair of Altezza's in my garage that I had on my last car for a few weeks, but I decided they were ugly. I may go ahead and paint them up and try to make something out of them instead of let them collect dust.

I bought these for my car, now I'm selling them for the fact that I had trouble from other drivers "seeing" me signal and brake. These lights are terrible during the day--very hard to see when illuminated. Wanna buy them?

It does look custom.. I have primed Altezza's to go on my black max when I get the f'in paint in from paintscratch.... It should look nice.

I love Nissan's period. I especially love the skyline and always have. I like the look of the tails. What I don't understand is ther term Altezza... It is the Lexus IS300 foreign but the Skyline's have the red rounds in the lights///???? Can anybody clarify for me?

Anyway, I am looking forward to my conversion and if I could afford a Skyline, I'd buy one. Other than that, I like the look of the tails and if I can make mine look similar, I'm happy.

I do not like the look of regular Altezza's on the Max though. Seems like everyone is going towards that trend.

Off to Wendy's////

If you like them, keep them. I don't like them because they just don't go with most cars. It's two little red lights swimming in a sea of chrome. On a Maxima, it's even worse because the two lights don't seem to line up. they look really crooked. On cars like Neons, Accords, they look decent because the shape of the taillight is similar to the IS300. On cars with 2 piece taillights, ie Maxima, Civics, Accords, etc. it just looks like A$$. It's like people don't care about the overall look of their car or how it flows and they're just bolting on everything they can.

General rule of thumb is, if you can buy a mod at Pep Boys, it shouldn't go on your car.

On a side note, my friend drives and IS300 and he hates the taillights. Every show we go to, people ask him if he's driving a modified Civic.

I agree with your thoughts. They are very well thought out. But seriously, something that stands out so much like altezza lights have definitely got to go. Its like looking at a blistering pimple on someone's otherwise smooth face.

Actually I love the altezzas. I got them on my Super Black Max. It all depends on what your taste is. I love the Black/Crome Look, knowing my car is a GLE. So the altezzas look perfect on my car, and they make my a$$ look Good! The crome blends with the Crome lettering and Crome Handles, Grill, and even the Window Crome Liners. I think its hot, I could care less what anyone else says. Off of the internet, I havent yet had 1 bad response about them, everyone says they look good on my car, but they didnt only say my car is phat because of the lights, they said it also, blends all in together.

I have often wondered about this... not to say that this is the case for you, just brought it up in my head.

I see a lot of "interesting" things done to cars here in the greater Chicago land area. Many times, they are in parking lots and whatnot in groups all hanging around; presumably patting each other on the back and living up the attention they are getting from the general populace.

The other day, a friend of mine and I are getting into our cars outside a Denny's. He has a rough looking (but quite fast) DSM, and I of course have a (dare I say pristine?) Maxima in excellent condition but without any real modification. Next to us, there are two vehicles with quite a few younger folks jumping in, laughing and giggling, pointing fingers at us and making comments in response to our obvious disgust at their monstrosities.

One of the cars was a DSM of the same year as my friends ('91) and the other was a Sentra SE-GTR-XBox or whatever it said. They both had park bench spoilers, big stickers taking up a large area of their rear windshields that said "X-Treme Machine", and various other 'Dual-Chrome-Imitation-Cell Phone-Antenna' esque additions.

They were obviously very proud of their "accomplishments" and seemed to all concur on this conclusion. However, my friend summed it up for me in just a few words... "They should have spent the money on a better car..." So true, I thought.

There is a kill story that follows this, but I have already rambled on and it is irrelevant so I will leave it out.

This is definitely a "To each his own..." kind of thing. But it makes you wonder why they don't stand back and go "WTF am I doing putting all this crap on my car?" and why isn't anyone telling them "Man, that looks like CRAP."

I don't think there's any point in arguing about this. Let people put what they want onto their cars. If not for them, we'd have nobody to make fun of.

It'd be nice if there were more types of lights available. Everyone has the red/clears, with the exception the Altezza people. Really not many choices. I am kinda bored with red/clear by now.

I have altezza and I think the car looks great with them. The quality isn't too great but it's not worse then the stock. So I think they look great and are the cheapest way of making your car stand out.
Thanks,

I've got a superblack max too and I like the altezza's. And on top of that, I'm one of those guys that hates these rice rockets with "park bench" spoilers and coffee can mufflers that don't do **** for performance. Id much rather have performance over cosmetics. Maybe it's just that I live in a kinda small town where theres a few integras around that'll catch youre eye, but that's it. The altezzas don't make the car look gaudy, just stand out a little more than other cars. I know that everything else I've done to my car (suspension, greddy exhaust, stuff that you can see from the outside) doesn't set me apart from the hundreds of other maximas driving around here and every now and then it's nice to get some heads turning without revving the engine. Then again, this is coming from a poor highschool student...

My next door neighbor just put up a fence between our houses that isn't exactly what I would have chosen for myself. I guess I could tell him that it looks like crap... But, I want to keep the peace...

Could be that your friends are apprehensive about telling you they look like crap because they don't want to offend you... Something to think about...

It is all an opinion and if you like them and don't mind driving around with people pointing and laughing at you, then more power to you. j/k But, seriously if you like them great enjoy them...but I wouldn't be found dead with them on my car. I just think they look ricey and don't go with the car at all. I'm not going to flame you because you have them. I just don't agree with your tastes!!!

well the term altezza comes from the toyota altezza that is the JDM of the IS300 so thas were the term comes from the altezza lights started out as a custom tailight conversion for honda accords cause they were really close to the shape of each other. So thas were the it got started. As far as the skyline conversion, have fun Im planning on doing it myslef as well as the headlight conversion. got to http://www.optauto.com/webstore/ if ya want to get skyline tail lights but be fore wrned they cost a pretty penny

Because they are ugly and 99% of the people who put them on their car are jokers with slow, poorly modded automobiles.

Ditto, check out Sexima's Max, there's a page floating around somewhere that tells you how to make them look like GTR tails... BTW, they look tight on his car...
