When you put the car on jackstands....

where do they go? cuz the regular jack has a spot where its doubly reenforced. to the left and right of the regular jack spot is all plastic, no? the reason im asking is i have to rotate my tires, and its cheaper to go buy 4 jackstands and do it myself.

Raise the car with a floor jack and place the jack stands in the exact same places that the scissor jack goes. The lip on the car with the two notches on either side should be resting on the jack stand.

If you put the lip on the stand, it will bend. I put the stand just inside of the lip.

You can jack the rear of the car up by the middle of the suspension beam and the front by the crossmember under the engine.

I've done it many many times this way and I have never had any problems with the lip bending. Hmmm....

On the front I used the 2 bars running down the middle of the car, and the rear, I just use the lip, and it works fine.

Amateurs!!!!! Papasmurf did a quick tire rotation at a restop in Laurel, MD on our way to Carlisle a few weeks back....all he used was the OEM scissor jack! I've never seen one whole side of a car lift up with a single scissor jack!

Just takes 5 easy steps
1. Jack up the left side and swap front and rear.
2. Same thing on the right side.
3. Swap the right front tire with your spare.
4. Jack up the left side again and swap your left front with the right front.
5. Jack up the right side one more time and swap the spare with the left front.

it amazed me too!!! all he did was put the scissor jack about a 1/3rd to midway on the rail and jacked it up..I was in disbelief when I saw both tires were free off the ground!!! he did this on BOTH sides of the car with ease! it might be in his suspension setup though...he has Cattman coilovers(not sure if that matters though), but they looked to be in the lower position than stock...wierd! ask Cutlr7 and Rolondo(other DC guys) they were both there to witness this...

Sounds "risqueeeee" to me. Too risky actually, I don't know if I'd trust that much weight on the OEM scissor-jack.

I once did a rotation with only one scissor jack too. However, I pulled the temporary spare out, removed one wheel, put the temp spare in place and put the lugs back on (tightened by hand). Then proceeded to the next tire, jacked it up and removed it, replaced with the one I took off first. Moved to the temp spare and removed it, replaced with the 2nd tire.

Repeated on the other side.

Man, longest time it took me to rotate tires .. what can I say, good ol' college days

Hmm... I guess you guys can't lift the whole side of the car from the front jack points? Works with my Altima. I guess that's one of the benefits of having crappy weight dist.

Go get yourself a few bottles of premium washer fluid for the summer driving. Bugs suck! (Do you realize how many bugs die as a result of our agressive front ends?)

Buy
1) premium power steering fluid (don't get the Honda-type, it's different)
2) premium DOT3 brake fluid
3) Premium tranny fluid
4) Check if you need coolant.

If you're curious, I am using Valvoline power steering fluid & Castrol DOT3 brake fluid. I didn't get any tranny fluid coz I took it to the shop and had them top it up for $2. Worked for me.

Check tire pressure. Inspect for leaks. Don't forget to change your oil drain washer the next time you change your oil if you notice leaks around the drain plug (or it could be your drain plug. It's cheap, get a new one).

To check auto tranny fluid: drive around for a little while and check the fluid level with the engine running in idle, neutral/park after a few minutes.

To check engine oil, COLD engine ... do it in the morning before you start your first drive.

To check power steering fluid, look at the markings on the reservoir, there's one for hot and one for cold. Same thing for coolant reservoir tank.

With H&R's on the car, I can lift both wheels on the same side by using the stock point towards the front of the car.

If I'm working under the car I use the rails that go front-back closer to the middle of the car for the stands.
