Installed Levoc shiftknob.. it sits kind of high, any way to shorten it?
Installed Levoc shiftknob.. it sits kind of high, any way to shorten it?
I am wondering if anyone has done this...
For those that have it... Does your sits high as well? Mine is like on radio level. Is there a way to make it shorter? Only way I can think of is to cut the metal rod and plastic that is on the car itself and drill a hole for the screw a little lower?
Has anyone done this?
It looks cool though... I'll post later today when I wake up

thats not what makes the shifter sit high. Its the actual metal rod that links to the trany that you need to cut down. I cut mine down with a pipe cutter about 1.5" now there is no gap at the bottom of my levoc

Yea
the black piece around the bottom was already cut for the Max, I bought it used from another member.
I figured that it had to be the cutting of the metal rod part, I tried to jam the shifter further down but what happened then is the button was always depressed and i could move it out of parking without pressing the button...
I guess i'll settle with this height because when i will sell the car the stock shifter will sit short as hell as a result of that...
thanks for the feedback

i went at mine with a hacksaw, remember there are two metal pieces, if you cut it the inner one needs to sit higher than the outer one so the button will work properly, definitely not an easy task to do with the saw, but in the end it will be worth it

Joe
I wan to lower my Levoc as well can you guys give me the exact instructions to do this?
I mean of course how much do I cut the metal around the shift release rod and then how much do I cut the rod itself. Then what did you do with the screw holes, what size drill did you use to punch the hole in the shaft? I would love a write- up on this!!! Thanks in advance!

The main reason I didn't get the Levoc was because it was so high. Looked too phallic for me.

Yeah, we wouldn't want our gf's and wives getting in heat and jumping up onto the center console on the levocs, that would be bad when she'd get electrocuted by the od button.

That's not exactly what I meant ... but ... I just didn't like the way it looked. And I liked resting my arm on the shifter when changing radio stations. Couldn't do that with the Levoc.
LEVOC UPDATE
My levoc sits somewhat lower than other uncut shifters because I rigged it without the two screws in the back. My **** is only held on by the 3 tiny hex screws!
Here's what I did:
I put the Levoc on and pushed it downwards, just right before the point where it will automatically depress the shift button down. Doing so will make the **** about 1.5" lower. Then when you are holding it in that position, begin to tighten those 3 little hex screws in. Once they are on there tight enough, it will hold the **** in place (no need to fear about it flying off, because it won't!) Don't underestimate those screws. I have had mine on there for a year and I tighten it every 6 months or so just to make sure it stays on there. Last time I tried to tighten it, it wouldn't budge- its on there nice and firm. I'm pretty happy with the setup for now. It'll last until I get a pipe cutter or hack saw at my disposal.
Here's all of the possible settings that I know of:
Highest setting (about 3.5" higher than stock shifter): Screwing only the lower screw on the **** into the higher hole of the metal piping.
Normal setting (3" higher than stock): Screwing in both holes of the shift **** and the metal pipe.
Slightly lower than normal setting (2.5" higher than stock): Screwing in the upper hole of the shift **** to the lower hole of the pipe will result in a half inch lowering of the ****. One screw is more than enough to hold the thing in place.
Moderate setting (1" higher than stock): Push **** down to the point where the shifter will still lock and using only the 3 hex screws to tighten it in. It'll stay on there fine.
Lower setting (stock height): Push the **** all the way down- as far as it can go. Screw in the 3 hex screws. *note* VERY Dangerous. Shifter can be moved at any time, dangerous while driving.
Lowest setting : Cutting the metal pipe and custom fitting the ****.
I recommend the moderate setting if you are not willing to cut the metal pipe. Very easy to return to stock that way.
Hope this helps all of you with ridiculously high levoc shift *****.
