knock sensor replaced and lost race

knock sensor replaced and lost race
i finally got the knock sensor from the parts bin.com (109$)
and i was able to put it in with help from my Japanese fiancee yesterday - right before she had to catch a flight back to Japan,
I'm soo glad she had small hands - i wouldn't be able to do it my self, anyway - later on that day I went to visit my brother and he wanted to race me with his friends 93 cutlass supreme with 188K on it
we did three times from stop - btw (I'm stock 97 se auto with 100K, he is an auto also )
and he got me by 2 car lenghts every single time !!!
I mean I really abused my max !!! power braking and shifting from 2 to D at 6500 rpm's !!!
I just don't get it ( btw - that's all he does - street racing )
maybe street experience smoked my max or i need to reset the ECU
and let it relearn it's new fuel maps ???
what do you guys think ???

No i din't get the code - but I wanted to replace it anyway i know it
haven't been replaced since the car got comishioned 100k ago -
plus the bottom of the KS was badly corroded - overall the car feels slower now .

If you weren't getting the KS code constantly, then please tell us why you replaced it? 
A faulty KS, depending on how it's failed, will do one of two things:
1) It will NOT detect knock anymore. You will never know it's failed unless 0304 keeps coming up.
2) It will continually detect knock even when there is no knock. Only in this condition your car will constantly throw the 0304 code and you will feel some loss in power.
There is also a very simple test to see if this sensor is within specs.

By the way, Nick, launching at 6500 rpms?? Whoah mamma! Don't need to go that high. Sheesh. You must have wheel spinned like crazy. Maybe its an automatic thing, but I dont think you need to go that high to launch. Try 2000-3000 rpm. The VQ makes plenty enuuf lo end torque.

Hey guys help me out. My car always throws the 0304, but my main question is, somtimes when I'm driving around, my car will get in this mood, like it feels really fast, and then munites after it feels really fast, I hear pininging, so is this the way my car is going to run after I replace my k.s? Not pinging but running really strong? I was just wondering maybe the timing is avanced just right and that's whay I feel the power, but then after it pings, it gets retarted(the timing) and feels normal again, and not like an animal. Any thoughts?

NmexMax - There's a thread on here about fixing your KS. Search for it and do what this guy did. See if your problem gets solved this way first. Also you can test your KS with a multi meter. Save yourself a few bucks and a headache if the KS is good.
