Question for you SC'ed Automagics out there...

This morning on the drive into work I followed this nice blue Probe GT down one of the main streets here. I wanted one of these before the Max but my wife didn't like having a hatch. Anyways, a T intersection was coming up and we had the green light. The Probe took a right without tapping the brakes. I didn't have my Overdrive off and did the same thing without braking. At this point I gassed it and the engine would rev loud without engaging for a few long seconds and then catch. Meanwhile the Probe was probably a stick and jumped ahead. I caught up to the Probe very quickly after the tranny sorted itself off. Btw I also had Don's VB mod installed 6 months after the SC was put in. Now if mine was a stick I would have downshifted and hung onto the Probe's tail like a burr but I couldn't. I almost felt like powershifting to 2nd.

Would having the Overdrive off have made any difference in this situation? I haven't played with the car much since getting Momo Sports with Falken 512's in 235/45-17s until now but I'm sure the weight factor must have played a part in this.
I also need to get a feel for the pedal on takeoffs. Any suggestions?

Hrm, slipping tranny maybe? The same thing happens to me (I don't have the VB mod yet) but I've only had the blower for a week or so. My tranny doesn't really slip, but it gets "lost" and will flutter between 4k-6k when I floor it at 65.

Are you referring to me? If you are, I'm not sure it's the tranny...what is the hobbs switch? The one for the fuel pump? No, the aux fuel pump is on all the time...and yeah, the belt is tight...do I need to retighten after driving it for a while? That little fluke only happened once though and I don't think I can (or want to) recreate it.

Yep, belts are fine...
Hobbs switch? I'd better do a search on this...
I just remembered that I reconnected the vacuum hose to the top of the auxiliary fuel pump when I went in for inspection a couple of months back. I think that may have played a part too.

Maybe it's the turbo-encabulator. You know, between the Hobbs switch and the frammis plate.

Since I'm running the SC with the stock pulley, should I be running with one step colder plugs or stick with the OEM plugs?

Even though you're running on a stock pulley, I think you should go with the one step colder spark plugs regardless.

HAD THAT PROBLEM...

yeah i had that happen too. you floor it and the car revs and bounces off the rev limiter. i fried the 1st that way, the 2nd, the 3rd, and the 4th. well i am working on the 5th one know. it is a computer tuning issue/ valve body issue. it isn't getting the command that it needs to shift in and out of gear fast enough. trust me i am still working on getting mine to shift out of first when under 40 mph. you can email your # so i can to you to see what is going on. furbiss112@aol.com hope to hear from you. later.

Thanks alot for the info, guys...
I've been playing with the overdrive button this morning on the way into work, eh eh eh...I can feel the kick down when its off.
I didn't get to try out that T intersection with the button as there was too much traffic in front of me.
I've not tackled replacing the plugs on a Max before (done it on my 1st gen Prelude) but I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I've searched the threads for help on doing it but I've noticed that no one has posted pics of how to remove the ones on the other side of the engine. The Haynes manual isn't the greatest and motorvate.ca has no pics.
If such a site with pics exists let me know!

:o)

Yeah, get the one-step colders and I don't think OD would have mattered. You wanted 2nd, OD off would put you in third. Good luck.

At this point in time there is a turbo kit available but only for 5-speeds. In an earlier thread its been said that it comes down to what you want.
Reliability and respectable power? Go with the SC.
Want more horses and less on the reliability? Go with the turbo.

Despite the automagic lag nothing beats the power surge kicking in from the SC. I replaced the plastic Bosch BOV with the Blitz Dual Drive BOV. Looks way much nicer!

Btw I found the pics at www.vbxmaxima.8m.com/sparkplug.html

I also found the thread on the Hobbs switch. I've disconnected the hose running to the switch and plugged it. The Max sure feels more energetic now that the aux fuel pump is on all of the time. Downside is that you can hear the fuel pump noise when the radio is off but its alot more quieter than the fuel pump in my wife's '88 320e.
