OBD2 scanning tool

Ok, I heard OBD2 has more than one function....reading the codes. What else can it do if anything? And where can I buy it cheapest....like online? (I found it for 140-150 over here..) thanks a lot guys

all obd II does is pull codes, u plug it into the plug under ur dash and it only works on 97 and up and some 95 or 96. go to autozone they sell em for a good price. im certified to pull codes because i work at autozone yet we dont get paid more wtf...

On some scanners, you can look at datastream. That is the sensor readings to the ecu. You can also activate some stuff like the cooling fan, solenoid, and other emission stuff. But the scanners that I know about like snap on and otc costs four figures and wouldn't recommend for most home mechanics. The scanners that cost cheap can most likely only read codes. On the maxima, you can read the codes without one. So why waste your money.
