i had my cars bumper and lower body kit painted and they pretty much painted everything so i am sueing him because he did not respect me and treaded me like i was 12 and i am 21. and two more things if you dont mind helping me out...

i have american racing rims on at the time of the mess up and they took the finish off the "crome" ring a round the outside. my rim is a two peice. i cant find a pic any where sorry. but can paint thinner or detailers wheel acid take this off? and last, do you have any idea what could make some of my calipers turn white. Paint or could it be the acid from them tring to clean the rims or paint thinner?

I am going over my two question limit but paint thinner is the same thing as reducer right??

thanks bro

It sounds as if the "chrome" was polished and clear coated aluminum. that's usually the case on wheels like that.

depending on the type of coating they used on it, paint thinner may or may not take it off. lacquer thinner usually will, which is a very common chemical in paint shops.

as for the calipers.. aluminum will turn white if you spray it with acid, but iron shouldn't. don't know why the calipers would turn white, unless it's a very light grey...

paint thinner and reducer are similar substances, but they're made for different types of paint. reducer is "paint thinner" used in enamel paints. lacquer thinner is exactly what it sounds like. "regular" paint thinner is used in acrylic paints. usually not seen on car finishes though.
lacquer thinner and enamel reducer are common in body shops though. either one can cause damage to the finish on your wheels or car paint.

Where did you get it painted? Maaco? They're notorious for paintaing people's wheels.

this should also serve as a warning to others who are considering having their car painted... put your stock wheels (or something you don't care about) on before you take the car to the shop. much cheaper to replace if/when they do screw them up. most shops will mask off the wheels so that they don't get painted, but if you get a jerk in a hurry, he'll paint "around" them- usually covering them in overspray and cleaning it up later w/ paint thinner.
