Noticed something funny when setting timing...
You're saying it jumped round when using the timing light? Right? If that's the case, then it coulb be a timing belt loose or about to go bad. When did you last replace the timing belt? should be evey 50-60k miles.

dam....well i replaced it like 2 months ago...but i wasnt 100% sure how to tension it because both my manuals said different stuff...i tensioned it like the Haynes manual said, with a feeler gauge n stuff. It seemed kinda wierd to me. Anyone know how nissan does it(the right way)? I dont want that **** to break or jump time
Nope...I don't know. I usually have the nissan dealer mess with the timing belt. That's something that if it breaks because of my error, I'll be in some deep sheeeeit. Not to mention lots of $$$ in the red. Hey check my post about "what;s it worth" and post a response please.
I wouldn't say it's indicative of a loose timing belt. It's never really steady. I always have to look really close too. A number of other factors could lead to it jumping a little. Did you let the car warm up? Was the distributor loose? Was it just your eyes? Was you timing light picking up the signal everytime? Is your timing light working properly? Just some things to think about.
