Someone with an FSM...could you help?

Hey:

Anyone with a factory service manual....would you do me a favor? I can't find one anywhere...and I want to fix my Cruise Control. I read every post on the site, and I don't seem to see anything about my problem.

I'm wondering if someone can fax/email copy/mail me the pages that deal with the cruise control, if there are any.

I'm dying to get it fixed as my of my driving is freeway. I can't seem to find a service manual for purchase anywhere.

Thx,
Matt

So what's the problem? The ASCD is split into several section in the FSM, so it would help to know what is happening and what isn't.

Check the kill switches on the pedals - they sometimes die. Also, read this

http://www.btinternet.com/~d.brooks1...s/cruising.htm

It might help explain a little about the system to you, though it doesn't really go into fault diagnosis.

Well, a few months ago, my cruise stopped working. I've been trying to determine what's wrong with it. That's quite a write up...I'll check the kill switches...but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for.

What happens is, I can press cruise button on the dash to turn it on...the light comes on on the button. But then, when I press the button the steering wheel, I get nothing. Everything else in the car still works...that is...nothing else stopped working with the cruise.

I'll look near the break pedal. Any way you know to tell if that kill switch is broken?

OK, here's the deal...

The ASCD system has a few safety measures built in. To turn it off you can either press the cancel switch, turn the system off via the rocker switch, press the brake pedal, or if you have one, press the clutch pedal.

The pedal cutout is facilitated by switches on the pedals. At the top of your brake pedal (and it is not very accessible) are two switches. One operates the brake lights. One is for the cruise control, and the ASCD computer uses them BOTH! The cruise switch is a normally closed type, so I guess you could pull the switch and check for continuity differences with the switch open and closed. There is also a similar switch on the clutch if you have one, and that needs to be checked too. If either of those switches have crapped out then the ASCD thinks the brakes are on or the clutch is in, and the system will not set.

There is also an ASCD relay under the hood, but I'd venture that if the green light is coming on on the switch then 99% of the system is probably working.
