Intermittant Non-Starting

Over the past three months my 96 GXE with 45k miles has failed to start about three or four times. The problem is electrical but before anyone can figure it out the car mysteriously starts up again, at which time the problem cannot be diagnosed(according to four separate mechanics). The time it takes before it starts again has been anywhere from 2 hours to 24 hours. Battery, starter, fuel filter, fuel pump relay switch are all OK. When it doesn't start there is no current to the fuel pump.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

When it doesn't start:

Do the headlights/highbeams still turn on brightly? Fan blower, etc?

Does the starter even turn over the motor?

When you turn the key all the way till right before it would crank, do all the lights light up and can you hear the fuel pump whirring in the back for a few seconds?

Need a few more details....

Thanks, RMB

Yes, I have all electric. I can't say if I can hear the fuel pump or not as I haven't focused on it.

I have a 98 SE w/ 43,000 and had the same problem. It turned out to be the ignition modual in the steering column. 17 bucks and starts like a champ every time now! The module is what the very tip of the key turns in the column, on the back of the lock cylendar. Try it out, cheap part!

Hope this helps!
