In the HOT Seat! The Black Leather Max Question

I found a Maxima that has everything I want at the price I want, SE, low miles, pearl white body, spoiler, 5 speed, etc, etc... But I really wanted Tan leather interior, as opposed to the Black leather that it has.
1) Personally, I think it looks better.
2) Doesn't it get SUPER HOT in the summer and SUPER COLD in the winter?
Comments on this type of option are welcome.
Thnx!

hmm
i don't know.. leather will get hot in the summer regardless of it's color.. although black would be warmer, still.. To me, Black leather interiors look 10X better than tan. I have a tan interior and i hate it. I want a black interior.

Well if Tan leather was a high priority for you, then you should wait. When paying this much money for something I say you should get exactly what you want. Shoot, I took a 10 hour train ride and a 7 hour drive home to pick up my Maxima, just because the one close to me had a brown dash & tan seats, and this one was black w/grey I felt it was a small price to pay since I'll be looking at the dash & seats for a long time.

If it was me I would buy it though cuz I think the black is better then tan. You could always upgrade your leather and get 2 tone at www.leatherseats.com. There's one Maxima owner here that has 2 tone tan/brown leather and I think it looks sweet!

edit: maybe you 2 could trade seats???

I owned Black on Black Nissan and was originally concerned too. Actually it was fine - though I live in CT. Leather seats should be heated which is a really nice touch though you don't need to use it much or for long. Leather breathes so it wasn't bad in the summer either (still looked for shade to when parking but you should always do that).

Where do you live? I know that here (AZ) black interior + 120degree heat = 3D degree burns. I guess it really depends on if you are willing to settle. How long have you been looking for this car. 5-speeds are pretty rare cars, it may not be possible to find another that's exactly what you want.

i would love black on black

my mom has black leather in her black 96 I30
I have tan leather in my 97 Max GLE

Although mine is cleaner on the inside, if hers was kept as well as mine, the black would look so much better, and you can do a lot more interior mods with black, like aluminum dashes and the such

but get what makes you happy, not what we say...you want tan, get tan

i've got a black leather interior - that's where remote window roll-down comes in real handy (hold down unlock button on the stock remote)

Get the Leather

Most ppl who have never had leather assume that they will be hot in the summer. ive personally never been bothered by it even when wearing shorts i dont think they get that hot unless you have the sunroof slide thing open and direct sunlite is on them i always close the door when i park. i would personally prefer leather over cloth anyday its just in my opinion so much nicer looking and classier looking than cloth and as far as the winter my seats are heated not that i use it much but its nice to have and even if you dont have the heated seat im pretty sure you can hook em up to be heated since from what ive read most of the hardware is already there

I have a pearl white/black leather max and it gets hot in the summer, but not so much that it becomes uncomfortable. Do this....

-tinted windows.
-keep the sunroof shade pulled when you park it under direct sunlight.
-if it is really hot, crack the windows just slightly.

I think the black leather looks really classy with a pearl white max. I had the grey cloth interior to begin with, but got rid of it about 6 months after I purchased the car. Leather makes the interior of your car smell really nice as well as look good.

do it, get black it looks so much cleaner anyway. Also should u want to do anything custom with the interior its alot easier to work with black then it is tan.

I have black leather and it can get really hot in the summer if you park in the sun but within a few minutes it cools down fast. It's definitely worth it though because black looks better. Tinted windows will also help keep your car cool. Since the car has everything else you want, I'd say get it.

GET THE BLACK LEATHER!

i would ONLY get black leather .. that is why i didnt sell my max and get a 5spd, too hard to find a 5spd max w/ black leather, climate, bose, blah blah... but black leather rules and the heat isn't too big of an issue...

If i could have a combo max, it would be mine (dark blue w/ black leather) or white / black leather...

GET IT.

buuut its your decision..

You can go and get the black and trade it with someone. Im shure MANY ppl would want to trade tan for black. Then again, black seats wouldnt look too good in a tan interior

Drat! I think the car has been wrecked pretty bad. The Carmax record is clean, but the guy told me that his father had to replace the front quarter panel and the hood due to a small shunt with someone. The airbags have been taken out, and it tracked a little to the right when I drove it. Otherwise the car is clean... Not too sure if I should get a car that I know has been wrecked...

The black seats were nice tho

What do you think?

I have a Max 5-spd. w/ black leather. I bought it largely for the 5-spd gearbox & not for the leather. Leather nice & "luxurious" on the one hand...but my butt/upper body shifts around too easily when going around corners & sweeping freeway ramps. Side bolsters on the front seats are nearly non-existent from my perspective. Maybe I need a racing harness.

That point aside, leather is pretty easy to clean but you have to remember to condition your leather once in a while. I also tinted my windows to keep the inside cooler & preserve the leather.

i think black looks so much better....my parents' black leather GLE was sweet. Besides, i personally can't stand the look of the tan dash.

just my 2 cents

if you have the black leather or any color, i recommend you get tints, cause since i got the tint on my car the interior has been much cooler and the AC works much faster.

I have black leather and I'd never get anything different. It looks the best, not too hard to take care of, and cigarettes don't burn (provided you pick them up).

My only two suggestions are:
1. Definitely tint
2. If you have a sunroof, close the sunroof or crack it up. then close the inside cover piece.

tint + no sun = cool car
black leather = cool car

tint + no sun = black leather?

I have the tan leather interior and man it gets hot as hell. I guess living in Phoenix doesn't help with 110+ degree heat. I think black looks good, but it wouldn't in my car because I have a gold/beige maxima and black just wouldn't go well with it. My car gets so hot I just put the key in turn the car on and let the AC blast for a couple of minutes before I'll sit in the car and cook myself. I love the look of leather, its much more classy, but I almost just want a cloth interior so my car isn't twice as hot. Oh well, not that big of a deal.
