just installed new lined flex section from WSP

I have the 1st gen WSP ypipe with the annoying bees in the can flex section. I ordered a new lined flex section from WSP and had it put on today. Costed me about $80 for the muffler shop to saw off the old one and weld the new one on. With the old flex section, when I'm cruising around 60-80mph, there would be this really annoying drone. The drone seem to be eliminated by putting on this new flex section. However, I noticed at low rpms, there would be this buzz/drone sound. Almost like an idling law mower that's the best I can describe it. Hm...maybe it's still new, need to break it in?

Btw, the guy said my old flex section look to be damaged, kind of burnt. Other than that, I couldn't tell if it's really bad or not.

Anyone have an idea why I still have the buzz kind of sound? I noticed today, the buzz is there even at idle. I got this new lined flex section because I thought it would eliminate the annoying sound coming from the old flex section. WTH? The buzz is there at idle and at low rpms. As speed and rpms increase, the buzz is gone.

Hm...I'm starting to wonder is the buzzing sound because of a possible leak? This sucks, I should have just sent the ypipe to WSP and have them put the new flex section on. Doh!

nismo: I'm not sure about the 3" flex section. Check out www.warpspeedperformance.com for more info. You could email them and find out.

So the sound you have now with the new flex at idle is different than what you had at speed with the old flex in there, right?

Hmmm...I have the WS sitting in my car right now, and I'm about to have it installed this afternoon. When I do so, I'll basically have the same set-up as you do. Could this new noise be caused by the exhaust somehow? Does the sound seem like it's coming from the same place? I'm hoping the WS will quiet down my exhaust note since I have the Stillen B-pipe/stock muffler in there right now.

So you got the whole WSP ypipe right? I don't think you'll have a problem if that's the case. I had to get my old one cut off and weld the new one on. Definitely not the exhaust. I can hear it coming directly from the flex section. I had header wrap on the old flex section, so there wasn't any noise at idle or low rpms. The droning would come on at about 60-80mph, once I get around 90+, the sound is gone. That was more of a droning sound. This sounds more like a buzz. Even when I didn't have header wrap on my old flex section, the sound wasn't like this.

Hopefully the weather will hold up and I'll see if this new flex section will make any difference. If I could run a faster time, I'll put up with the buzzing. If not, I think I might have to consider getting a whole new ypipe.

I have a Cattman pipe with an older lined flex section that so far looks good (knock on wood). I was thinking of getting a new lined flex just to be safe, but now that I've read your comments I don't know...

My car definitely sounds a bit raspy esp. at low rpms, but I don't know how much of this is because of the b-pipe (no resonator) or not. We'll see how much of a difference the WS makes in about an hour.

Well, I just emailed WSP about this new problem. Hopefully they can shed some light on this matter because it seem like nobody here have an idea. I thought more people have bought the new lined flex section already, that's why I posted this. Guess not.

I jacked up my car today to put on some spiral wrap I bought from Radio Shack to put on my noisy rear susupension. Since I had the car jacked up, I took a look at the new flex section. OMG...talk about a bad welding job. The weld looked pretty crappy. I'm not sure if that's why I have the buzzing noise. The weld just didn't look very good to me. I'm no expert, so I'm not certain if the weld is really bad or not. It just doesn't look right. Also, on Saturday when I was coming from the track, I noticed the droning sound that I had before was still there, it's just not as bad as before. I never took a look at my RT cat, could the drone be coming from that?
