Blown MAF sensors . . . what year is your Maxima?

People are saying that MAF sensor failures with aftermarket intakes are restricted to 2K2 Maximas. Let's find out.

So let me get this straight. We've only had ONE blown MAF Sensor? Why don't I believe that?

Mine was replaced when I bought my Max (used). It still had the stock K&N Filter on it. They said it was a faulty one. ????

How is it that the MAF sensor seems to be an unstoppable, wide-spread epidemic in the 5th gen forum, yet only two people have voted???!

And if you vote, could you please post here if you did anything to screw it up yourself? ie: over-oiling, playing craps with MAF sensor, etc, etc.

There were too many questions to try to wrap it up in one poll, Jeff. But you're right about one thing. It looks like people are tired of responding. So I guess we'll never really have all the information we're looking for. That's too bad.

I would bump this again....we have many people modding their max and the first thing do for most of them is the intake. I would suggest everyone to do some research before they do every mod. and by responding this, we will have a better picture for the next group of people who also want aftermarket intakes.

I think this is a great poll. I'm thinking about buying the Berk intake but not if the MAF is going to fail.

literally dozens of threads on intakes, which sounds better, which 'performs' better, which costs less....on and on and on and on....

but one of the most critical potential issues seems to be too much bother...

as a drop in guy who does not think an intake is worth the $$$ or possible aggravation for 'marginal' gains...I have been interested in this to see what other issues may lie in wait for intake purchasers...

You're not the only one whose mind is boggled.

Perhaps all those people with MAF problems were just bs'ing us, jjs.

There seems to be a pretty even distribution of blown MAF sensors between 2K/2K1 Maximas and 2K2 Maximas so far. I guess the rumor that blown MAF sensors are isolated to 2K2 Maximas is false. Of course if it weren't false, why would Nissan have issued a TSB for blown MAF sensors covering 2K/2K1 Maximas only?

Yeah, but how many of the 2k2's are on the street compared to the others? Plus I doubt many 2k2 owners have had the chance to mod their intakes yet.

I'm sorry .. but what happens when the ECU goes into limp mode? Maybe I have a blown MAF? My Service Engine Soon comes up every day now ... even after I reset the ECU.

From my experience 1st you think your car has just died then you realize that it is actually still running but with maybe 1/3 of its normal power then you notice the Service Engine Soon light is on...

With this blown sensor deal, so your car goes into limp mode with the ces light on, you bring it to the dealer? Or just reset the ECU by umplugging the battery? I'd like to hear most from the Berk users on this one. This thread is making me nervous.

hmm............. it's interesting that stock cars have been having MAF problems too... especially at 30k!

i am at 41k and i have the berktuning intake. i have not put it in yet because i want to get a stock dyno in first. i have had no problems so far with my MAF (knock on wood). if the MAF blows after i "correctly" install the intake do you guys think its safe to say that it wasnt a MAF problem, but the intake that caused the MAF to go? also, even though Maximam's MAF went bad at 30k... would you think its safe to say that my MAF is okay since i have about 10k more miles than him.

it appears that some maf's may have been manufactured badly and have problems and the intakes just accelerate the process. or maybe they are just sensitive and people toss themaround while installing the intake. i always baby mine since i play with it alot trying out different filters and heatshields and designs.

word, but how do i know where to place the blame if my MAF blows up after installing an aftermarket intake?

that is ultimate question.

Your engine won't rev above 2400 rpm.

put the stock intake back on and take it to nissan. the 95-99 guys have very little if any problems sounds like hyperactive sensors.

So the deal is, if it blows out, just put the stock shiznit back on and take it to Nissan? And the will do what? I don't want to put the Berk on if this is gonna be more problems than advantages.... Help?

Odds are you won't run into a problem with the Berk, Neal. But you've got the right idea. If you do have a problem, just put the stock airbox back on and limp into your dealer. Tell them you have no idea what's going on. They'll take it from there.

For those of you who have the stock stuff in your trunk, can I ask why? If it just goes into limp mode, what's the problem? Can't you just limp it back to your home? Just a question for all, I need the trunk space....

I suppose you could do without your stock airbox if you're not too far away from home when your MAF goes south. But I'd definitely take it with you on extended trips.

just in case it has to go to a nissan dealer (say I am 700miles away from home)...I would put it back before they b1tch about my aftermarket intake.
