When it governed out what happened? I thought that only some later model third gen GXE's had governors.

i assumed it governed out?????????

i had loads of pedal left... BTW, i drive an automatic. when i reached about 115, my engine sort of revved up and kinda felt like the tranny was slipping, then rpm's dropped and i slowed down.... i was like WTF???? I'm not for sure what the hell happened.

loads of pedal? As in you weren't WOT? Or do mean you had a lot of RPM to go?

Not a tranny problem, even if it was, it wouldn't be a problem unless you drove 115+ miles per hour every day.

I smacked 130 est. (speedo tops out at 125) last Sunday coming home from the Poconos and she was still pulling. Oh yeah 91 SE 5speed. BTW, I don't have much faith in any stock speedo but it would be nice to know what the top speed is on these ol' heeps .

My car has a governor too!, at like 127 or something the car start to limit like the rev limit but at 4500 rps more or less that dont let me go faster.
Now I see im not the only one.
mabe changing my ecu will take the limiter too.

Just curious...is yours an auto? I've hit 5K rpm on mine and haven't had the ignition interrupted. Sounds like this may be an auto tranny issue???

'91 SE Auto. I have cruised at 125+ for 10 or 15 minutes before. Never came close to hitting any sort of rev limiter.

I've found that with my auto if I leave the tranny in comfort mode I'll bounce of of that limit at about 117mph, but if I switch it up to power then I can blow right past it.

i have a stock 90 gxe and ive taken it up to 115 a few times. One time i took it close to 120 and i am pretty sure if i wanted to i could have kept on gaining speed. if i had to guess id say 125-130 is top speed (even though the speedometer goes up to 125 only)

115-130?

where the hell u guys driving on deserted freeways, highways?

i hope you guys aren't driving liket that with cars on the road...

hte fastest i taken my 92 se was 115 once.

i guess i reserve my speed for the track...

which i think is much less risky...plus i iwsh i could once in awhile...but my neighborhood chp (california highway patrol) would not like it.

h

92 SE auto = 141mph with more to go, but I was scared. 92 SE 5 speed 145+ dont know how fast it was going, because the speedo was baried, but it was still going. I have heard they can get up to 210mph is this true?

The only reason that any of the maximas are speed governed is if they came from the factory with less than suitable tires. I have had my 92 SE to 150 before. The speedo was nearly pegged and for those of you who don't know, I am talking about the peg by 0 mph. Since the speedo gets wildly optimistic the faster you go, I relied on my tach, which indicated 6300 RPM in 5th, which is about 154 mph -tach error. BTW my Z is governed to 155!!

somebody wrote something about the transmission switch being in comfort. Try putting it on the power mode and see if it still happens.

Turn off overdrive and rev out 3rd, should get you to somewhere around 130 before the rev limiter. I havent been able to get my car any faster in od. Usually it will actually slow down.

in my 89 auto 4 spd i've hit 120mph a couple of times going to canada w/my bro's (booze & play huntin').

i was wondering if it was a gov'ner that limited my speed cause i was only at 4.5k rpm's. i was actually amazed at how well my 89 handled at those speeds w/stock wheels, suspension.

I got my '92SE 5spd up to 135 on the way home from the beach one day, she still had some more left too. Was maybe at about 4900-5000 rpm's in 5th, when it doesn't redline until about 65-6600. I was very impressed i must say(completely stock engine too) VE power baby!

curious

auto 92 SE...mine is a lil strange and i always wondered what might have caused this....when i first got my car, i had no problems reachin 130-140 mphs and still had a lil left to go...but now when i try to reach those speeds, the car only goes to 125 mph and goes no faster, plus my pedal is buried in the floor...anyone know what might have cause the loss of speed and how to get it back???

I know the 5speeds arent limited, i went past 125 on the speedo and still had a good 1000 rpms and kept going, but pulled off a bit to ge off at my exit. It is very smooth at those speeds, i have brand new tires so i guess that helped.

By the way, pest2001 , your mom drives that fast!!?? thats sweet

93 GXE, fastest I ever had it was the "H" in MPH.... I don't hit 4th gear witht he pedal pegged until 115MPH, and I can cruise at about 120 or so without a full foot on the pedal... I was doing it the other night playing around with a Honduh...
And the only mod I have is an FSTB and custom broken manifold studs...

Be careful! I know from experience how unstable and jittery Maximas are at high speed without some real $$$ in the suspension and tires!

i think it may be something with the autos to. i got mine up to around 125mph and the revs were high like 5k or a little higher. the rev limiter or something kicked in. it scared the **** outa me.
