Repost...

How low could I go without replacing the struts?
I have 53K on a 98' GXE and wanted to throw DZ springs that are a 2" drop. Am I screwed and have to buy new struts?

I searched through about 15 pages and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. There were over 100 pages in every type of search I did. I don't have all day to read every thread.

Thanks again.

You can ride your struts until they fail or until they're too soft for your taste. There's no right answer. Stock struts typically will last 80-100k miles.

If you put aftermarket lowering springs (esp a 2" drop) you can keep your stock struts but you'll kill them very quickly as they won't be able to handle the faster spring rates. I would plan on using new good aftermarket struts all around like AGX's if you do the springs to save on the labor later....

Unless you know how to do the install it'll cost you twice for the labour on the install:
1) when you put in the springs
2) after a while your stock shocks will either go/or you don't like the feel of them and you get a new set installed.

Save yourself some money and do it at the same time.

I know how to do this. I just don't want to spend $300+ dollars on struts. I'd rather save my money and get HID's.....

Which is cheaper for the Max the Tokico's, or the KYB's?

Tockicos are what around $270 plus something like that, KYBS AGX someone is selling them for $350 check the for sale section. Do it right the first time get some good adjustables. But if your doing your own install get the HIDS get the adjustable shocks later. I didnt get Konis for about a year and half and the roads here are pretty bad.
