Interior Likes and Gripes
Well I've had my 2k2 6 speed Max for a while now and I wanted to start a thread about what people like and dont like about their interior.
Likes:
-Steering Wheel = LOVE how it feels, responds, and the buttons are great
-Dashboard Instrument Panel = simple, sporty, and well refined
-Leg room = nuff said
-Center Armrest/Console = Comfortable w/ lots of compartments
-Rear cup holders = always a plus
-Visor extender = priceless
Gripes:
-SEAT BELT = OK how many people HATE that it gets stuck on the seat
instead of hanging normally when you take it off???
-Front cup holders = tall bottles and things always get in the way when shifting
-Stereo/Clock Display = come on now... still boring green???
Just a few to get everyone started

Dash lighting
Overall, I think Nissan blew it on the dash-dimming.
My headlights are always on (want all the help I can get with distracted drivers) which puts the dash into a dimming mode.
I cannot read the clock in bright daylight. I can't read the radio/comfort controls unless I turn off the dimmer - then they are way to bright at night.
Why couldn't they use a 10-cent photo-sensor for the dimmer control instead of looking at the headlight switch. And why is the clock controlled differently than the radio?
Can any of this be reprogrammed to behave better?

I don't like the plug for the cell phone. You take it out and put it
in the cup holders and it rattles around.
The one for the back seat is better, it just flips up.
In order to recall seat memory locations, you have to have the auto-positioner enabled.
The homelink is on the far left of the driver's visor instead of the right side like in every other car I've seen with Homelink.
I wish we had a option tof geting the armrest riser or a small shallow compartment with a lift up lid.
Why is the front cup holder angled forward? I'm paranoid about stopping fast and spilling my beer.
On the I35, the TCS button is located up near the intrument panel in plain sight. To turn it off in my Max, I always have to look down to find it!
Constantly (dimly) glowing SES light!

That you can lower the windows remotely. It is a huge difference when parking outside (parking lots). I wish it did the sunroof, too (like Lexuses do). I also wish you could raise them back up (great for rain situations).
The way you load the CDs in one slot instead of having a magazine. I wish it was a 10 disc changer.
The recirc mode does not automatically shut off after a certain number of minutes. My 300ZX shuts off after about 15m and I have to keep turning it back on. PITA!! I wish it would retain the setting across restarts (instead of having to turn it on every crank).
The cabin air filter. Nothing to improve on there!!!
Mine is an automatic, so I'll add the gated shifter. [ExitTesticles] Since my wife wouldn't let me get the 6-speed [/ExitTesticles] it is as good as it gets without an actual manual/automatic (I hope you know what I mean - tiptronic, et al) shifter.
The trip computer (inaccurate as it may be), especially the outside temperature display. Wish it had direction display.
My favorite interior thing is the steering wheel and controls, but you already took that one!! Hey, you started the thread - I guess that has its privileges.
Things I hate:
The doors do not automatically lock. They should lock at a certain speed or lock when you take it out of park (AT). They should have a defeat switch (like the auto exit driver's seat) for those that don't want it.
The overhead sunglasses case. Why didn't they use the same method they used on the front cup holder? Mine doesn't open about 20% of the time and I have to pull it with my fingernails.
The rear windows don't go down all the way.
I'll send more when I think of them. Good topic!! I have some for exterior and perf/handling when you want to start that one.

???? We have both.
Only a few complaints from me,
I love the feel of the steering wheel, but I wish the steering wheel buttons light up.
I wish the rest of the dash match the gauges (SE)
I wish the the E-brake was on the passenger side of the center console.
I wish there were more adjustments to steering wheel like more tilt and telescoping (like the Altima)

The only thing that really bugs me is that the clock isn't on a dimmer like the rest of the dash lights. My drive home involves a 5 minute drive down a country road with no street lights and lots of deer and I like to dim the dash lights at night but that damn clock always burns a hole in my retinas.
Another gripe (but I think this is the way it is in all cars) is that the high beam light also does not dim.

I love my interior. That was the main selling point of the car for me.
I LOVE
The blue display
Titanium gauges
Two-tone dash
Pilar tweeters
Large door speakers (my Mazda had 4")
Sunglass holder
Large armrest compartment for CDs
Sunroof control location
Adjustable armrest
Height adjustable seat
Separate clock from radio
How you don't need a dash kit to make it look nice. It already looks great!
I DISLIKE (not too much)
The similar climate control **** and stereo ****- I always confuse them
How difficult it is to adjust the ad vents left to right- it automatically wants to turn all the way one way or the other.

Two things I don't like:
1) The placement of the mirror adjustment controls. Maybe I just have short arms, but it's just not possible to be sitting in a normal driving position while adjusting the mirrors. I have to lean forward, and then I can't tell if the mirrors are where they should be. Just a little annoying.
2) I wish the steering wheel buttons were back lit. I've heard the arguments about driving by feel, but then why would all the other switches be lit up?
Everything else is good.

just a thought...
my interior gripe is mostly the air filter...I would have liked much more if it was more accessible than having to dismantle the glove box to get at a 'maintenance' item.
Likes:
Interior room: Being 6'3.5" and over 300 severely limits your car choices.
Ease of use for most controls
Dislikes:
Instead of integrating the heated mirrors on the A/C switch, they should be separate on the mirror switch like the 3rd Gen. Technically, there is a space for a small switch on the mirror control.
Wiper switch is easy to kick on
You can let the windows down with the remote but can't let them back up
I wish the steering wheel controls lit up as well
Make the Auto Position for the headlights adjustable in terms of shutoff time or delay.

I think most people have listed the things I would have...except for one thing: the adjustable center console. I like the fact that it is adjustable, but I always seem to push the button in with my elbow making it either lower or pop up!
I hate that!

I'm with you on the e-brake thing. I'm 6'5" and my right leg is always pressing on it - it get's pretty uncomfortable after long trips.
No rubber boots on the turn signal and wiper arms in 2k1 and 2ks. Dust gets in there.
Interior noise - it's a little "road" noisy when your up to speed.
Potenzas suck!
Turn radius is lousy.
Paint chips?
No gas filler tube protector - so sand, salt and water got up in my filling area . (had to buy one because I was sick of the dealers stupid looks everytime I mentioned it)
Premium unleaded is expensive!

Agressive look.
Leather's nice.

Fast - not as fast as the 3.5 but fast enough.
Smooth running - shifts nice (automagic) smooth ridding.
Very reliable.
Folding seats - never had that in my last vehicle.
I like the Bose ( I know a lot of you don't)
17's are cool enough for me.
Black on Black - pain to clean, but when it's clean it's CLEAN.
Many luxury features that cars that are $10K + more have.
My wife likes it - if that means anything.
uh, dude...

I don't like the guages on the 2k2 as much as I did on my 2k, especially at night. There is no color to them at night--all white numbers. My 2k I think had some blue in there somewhere too.
I am probably the only person that doesn't like the radio controls on the steering wheel. I don't see where it is any easier to use those than to just reach over and grab the big **** on the radio. I usually hold the steering wheel in that opening when I am cruising on long trips, etc. and the controls just get in the way.
The dang re-circulate button on the AC won't stay on when the car is turned off. I never remember to cut it back on until I get behind some diesel truck or something and the inside of my car stinks--then its too late.
The "auto" selection on the headlights should be the last selection instead of the first.
I love everything else though!

Speaking of leg room, has anyone tried to adjust the seat tracks to increase leg room. I was able to redrill the rails on a previous car (96 Cobra), and gained an extra inch.
Just curious.
Leg Room
I am also a memeber of the tall man club, but I do not think that the max has nearly as much front leg room as it should. That is my only gripe about the max's interior. I have my seat all the way back, yet still my knees are bent somewhat un-naturally. I also sat in an altima, which for some reason, has much, much more leg room for the driver.

Dislikes-
The grey plastic panels on the doors (that houses the window lifts and power lock controls) scratches very easily. Can't believe that any car company would put this low quality crap in a "Flagship" car. I have already had all 4 of mine replaced under warranty once. This same grey plastic is also on the center stack/console. No scratches there yet but there probably will be in time.
On the 2k & 2k1 the auto position for the headlamps does not have a delay. When you turn off the ignition the headlamps simply go off. (I have since added a delay to mine with a rewire. Look at the installation instructions thread.)
Mirror controls force you to bend away from the postion you would be in when looking out of the mirrors in the first place.

Love the overall design of the interior. Very ergonomic. For the most part the controls used the most fall right at hand.
The flowing design of the center stack and center console. Brushed alluminum on shifter gate is attractive. Adjustable front center armrest. Cell phone storage in the top of front armrest.
Auto open/close sunroof.
Auto up/down window.
All window lift and door lock controls are illuminated.
Fold down rear seat.
Retained accessory power.
Clock is separate from radio.

I was on a tangent.
