B&G vs H&R??
B&G vs H&R??
hey im gettin springs soon, and i wanted to know peoples expereinces with B&G and H&R...im most likely goin with B&G cuz i heard theyre great quality, good handling, decent drop-1.6" around...and above all, alot cheaper than the H&Rs..anyone think i should reconsider? or is B&G worth getting? by the way i am also gettin new kybagx along with them..i live in queens, nyc..so consider the roads not being that great either

I've had H&R's in my car, nice ride, a bit bouncy (soft spring) But great handling and a drop that will work with NYC roads.
I currently have B&G + AGX's - This is an excellent spring/strut combo. Great handling, smooth & tight on the highway but you need to slow down when your on bad roads. The drop is around 1.8 almost 2 inches. (Auto Tranny) That doesn't leave much travel in the suspension.
I don't think the Max's suspension will be very happy in the NYC area with B&G's.
I'm in NNJ and the roads out here are nice. The ride on the highway is excellent with the B&G/AGX combo. I think you might be better off with H&R's in the NYC area.
Don't do B&G if your 5 speed, the drop isn't even.

damn i had set my mind to getting some B&G, but if the drop wont be even with the 5-speed, then im back to sqare one.
By the way i have a picture of your car from the NE meet(what convinced me to get the B&G), i can send it to you if you want.

I have B&G's and my car is currenty AUTO. It sits about 1.7 in the front, and 1.55 in the rear. If anything it will EVEN up my suspension. And do you think 60lbs. of weight loss on the engine is really gonna do that much to a spring? Where's the proof behind your statement?
Craig, are you saying it sits even on your auto, or not. Because I can tell you for a fact my front looks higher in my 5-speed. It's not really that annoying, but noticeable if you look up close.

EDIT: I just took some measurements, here's exactly how my car sits.
Fender gap is approx 1 & 7/8 inches with the rear sitting about 1/8" lower then the front. I have a little over 1/2 tank of gas in the car as measured. You can't really tell the rear sits lower unless you look hard. If you were to take lets say 100 lbs out of the front (Manual tranny vrs. my Auto) I'm sure that 1/8 inch difference will increase. Being the fender gap is small to begin with, you will notice slight differences more. In other words, if you had 3.5 inches of gap and took away .125 inchs, you would hardly notice it. On the other hand if you only had 1.8 inches and took away .125 inches, you will see it. It's all how your eyes see things. Sort of why our cars gap looks bigger with 17" wheels, yet the circumfrence has not changed.

Take two 1995 Stock SE's. One is manual and one is AUTO. Are you (Nj) saying that the auto will weigh 100lbs. more JUST becuase of the manual tranny? Hmm.
Anyways, I hope the difference is not 100lbs. (well actually I do, for performance
). If anything when I swap tranny's my springs should even out, Although I wish my front end would stay as low.
Maybe they will be conditioned from the weight of the auto, so when I swap the tranny's they will stay the same...oh well
Accordin to what I remeber from the old days of the forum, the Auto Tranny adds 200lbs of weight to the car. I wente throught tihs cuz my first gen Eibachs would show some majro A$$ sag on a 5 - speed Maxima. On mine (auto) its pretty even.

Did you try Shox.com?? They might work with you on the price if you tell them about the group deal. I got my AGXs from them and they met the GD that was currently going on. I think I paid 365 or somewhere around there. Check it out. If you have any questions about the install, let me know. I also recommend you make new gaskets for the upper strut mounts. (where the mount meets the body) The red paper things Nissan puts there are crap. PM or Email me and I'll give you more info on how to make those. They definately made my car quieter on the road. Especially on cracks, and bad roads.
