How much you guys pay for the muffler?? I'm thinkin about calling Courtesy to see how much they sell them for, but am not even sure what a good price is. Any noticeable gains from the muffler??? Right now I've got HKS universal..and it's just too loud for me now w/ the addition of y-pipe. Thanks for the info fellas.

Stock vs 2000 muffler = same sound and maybe some performance 3-5 hp maybe

2000 vs hks = maybe not as much as the hks but probably 3x quieter.

IMHO there's not a whole lot to ge gained by a performance aftermarket muffler considering the noise you have to put up with. There are quiet aftermarket mufflers but they are $$$ I think.

Oh yeah. Those aftermarket mufflers sould good for about 1 week and then you start to hate the drone. Used 2000 mufflers should be anywhere from $120-$200. If you get one for $150 or less, that's about fair for both parties I think.

you know what would look tight as hell! dual 5th gen mufflers, one out of each side at the back... but I can't see that happening unless you cut out the spare tire well like five did to his max...

To me it would just add weight to my already fat-assed heavy car.

note how I said that you would remove the spare tire well + all that weight... it would be lighter...

I was thinking about adding a 2000 I30 muffler

I hear this is the one used on the 20th AE Maxima, it might be the same, I dunno. I found one for $50 in Texas. Use copartfinder.com, it's great. Yeah, good point, I like my spare tire too.

Is the 5th gen muffler a direct bolt on for a 4th gen?

I have a 2000 Maxima Muffler >>>>

on my 95 SE and with the Y-pipe and intake it is still pretty quiet, a little above stock noise levels, but still very quiet, no droning and very stealth like. I did a HP reading before and after installng the 2K muffler with my VERICOM performance computer and it said that I gained approx. 3-4 FWHP which is about 5-6 crank HP. I bought my muffler used for about $100 and needed to replace my stock one since it started having a hole in it.

How does 2k muffler look on yours

I have a 96 SE and was wondering how the 2K muffler looked with 4 gen max's since we have a single cut-out on the back bumber piece. I figured it would look awkward but I have not seen one done yet. I need a new exhuast system soon but would prefer the quietness that everyone is saying about the 2K muffler.

This is recessed a little more than a stock bolt on. Had the b-pipe cut a little to try and fix some rattling

hmm

How bad is the noise with an after market muffler. I found a dual tipped muffler on ebay for 100 bucks that i want to get, mostly for looks (i want dual tips damnit, and im not just going to buy a tip cover thing, HELL NO!). But if its going to give me a headace everytime i drive then theres no point. If i just turn on some music will it be ok?

I always liked dual tip mufflers... but face it, they don't belong on a 4th gen: while I like how they look on the 3rd and 5th gens. I think you should get a greddy or similar if you want a cool looking one. If you don't care about money and wanted the coolest looking muffler, then do what fiveliterkiller did and get dual pipes, one on each side

Pics

Do you have pics (or anyone) have pics of dual tips on a 4th gen ( maybe a photoshopped one). Why would it look bad?
I would KILL for dual exhaust, but i cant afford such an undertaking (unless someone wants to sponcor me,hehe). I saw dual tips on a 3rd gen and it looked fine... so id love to see a dual tipped 4th gen.
Thanks!

IMHO the 2k muffler would look a lot better on a 4th gen if you went to a body shop or custom shop and got them to mold that cutout in the bumper into a similar shape as the tip.... just picky stuff though.
