Questions on tuning the engine

On a 1995 Maxima SE with all the options and 104k miles. Bone stock except for a K&N filter.

Two questions. First, I am taking a road trip in my car (from Chicago to Southern California), so I will be putting 4000+ miles on my car in 1.5 weeks. Is there anything that I should do before I drive the car that far? Everything seems to be running fine on the car, although I'm not getting the acceleration that I would like. Which brings me to my next question.

What can I do to get more acceleration from my Max? My friend drives a '97 Pontiac Bonneville (non-SSEI) and he beats me every time we race. He does have a few more HP's than I do, but he also weighs alot more. Any ideas? Thanks.

If you haven't changed the radiator hoses, coolant, or belts yet; I would suggest you do before your road trip. Fuel filter, spark plugs and A/T fluid should also be relatively new. Installing a A/T cooler would be a good idea also.

When I go on a long trip I change the oil before hand, check the plugs, tires (including spare!), and other filters (fuel, air, etc.). If you're up to date on your maintenance you should be all set.

Out of habbit I always pack a toolbox for trips over 500 miles each way. You never know when something will go wrong or where you'll be.
