I know this has happened to many of us. The last time I changed my spark plugs two of the spark plug boots ripped in half as I was trying to get them out. So half the boot was stuck around the spark plug and I had no way of getting the spark plug boot out or the spark plug. People said to apply some krazy glue to the end of the ignition coil, but that didn't work. So, I created a handy tool that would combat this problem. I am in the process of patenting this tool, but would be willing to let people on the .org who've had this problem purchase the tool. Basically, it's a spark plugs socket that has sharp ends to cut out the boot. When these sockets hit the market they will priced at $15.99, but since the .org has been so good to me I'll drop the price 20% to $12.80. Let me know if anybody is interested.

 

Hey I just registered. So I could send you a reply. I need one of those tools, I got a 98 automatic Maxima & I was doing the same thing & all of mine came out easily accept one, so I wanna get it out with out damaging the circular walls that the spark plug goes into.

 

The post was over a decade ago, doubt the OP is still around. Have you tried the krazy glue method?

It is annoying when it comes off. those pliers should work and other methods. I used one of those grasper tools where you push the button on the end and the 4 clasps come out. It took a few tries and some adjustment on the tool but it eventually came out.

 

I was able to use a long straight bird beek pliers.

 

You can apply some dielectric silicone grease to the boots so it will be much easier to pull the boots out without ripping the boots.

 

Use electrical tape on the end of the coil to bulk it up (2 or 3 times around is plenty), insert it into plug hole (as if you were putting the coil back on) and into the "nipple" that is stuck in the hole. Then pull the whole thing out gently. Apply more electrical tape as needed but remember to take the tape off before reinstalling permanently. Worked for me. No special tools needed. Just for visual learner sake, in the pic, you would wrap the coil where the red cap is.

I use regular pliers. Few mins and everything is out undamaged

 

You guys are ripping coil packs? I've never done that. They seem pretty sturdy to me.

 

Not the whole coil pack, just the little rubber boot on the spark plug end.
